KSRW Airs Comedy Today From Radio Workshop

The Radio Workshop broadcast at 4 30 p m features The Half Dime on WADC Akron written by Lenard Silverstein and Milan Graach now at Camp Crowder Mo The cast includes Frances Allen Denard Silverstein Bill Guisewite Bob Smiley Nick Bozeka and Don Wargowsky who will introduce the play with a note of a surprise ending.

Fraternity Bids Declared By Campus Office

Thirty five men pledged to join campus fraternities while 36 did not indicate intent. Sigma Tau Gamma and Delta Phi Sigma lead with 11 pledges each, followed by Kappa Mu Kappa with eight, Alpha Phi Beta with three, and Phi Beta Phi with two. Kappa Sigma Chi did not extend bids.

Bob Chester to Head Top Hop Dance in Wills Gym

Bob Chester and his 19 piece band headline the second annual Top Hop in Wills gym Saturday Feb 6 from 9 to 1. Admission is $1.50 per couple with activity tickets. Proceeds fund University weekend dances. Betty Bradley and Gene Howard provide vocals.

Chestnut Burr schedule for organization pictures announced

Burr Pictures lists time slots for Chestnut Burr groups on the society page. Today groups meet in Moulton hall lounge this afternoon, tomorrow in the gym through the women's entrance, and Thursday in Engleman hall lounge. Juniors and seniors without class pictures should gather in the University darkroom from 7 to 10 p m tomorrow.

Kent Downs Akron Four Others In Pittsburgh Tournament

Kent State university claims the Pittsburgh Debate Conference title after defeating five Ohio and Pennsylvania squads. Elizabeth Eisley and Adelaide Snyder led the negative while Bob Abbott and Harold Stern argued the affirmative on a United Nations unity resolution. Other Kent teams faced Penn State, Pittsburgh, Akron, Mount Mercy, and Seton Hill.

Art Club Open House Today Featuring Glenn Moore Shaw

Cleveland artist Glenn Moore Shaw, lecturer on camouflage, will attend an open house at the Art Club from 3 to 4 p m today following a 2 p m camouflage lecture in 317 McGilvrey hall. Shaw, a Fort Belvoir engineering graduate, teaches camouflage at the Cleveland School of Art. the public is invited.

Council Refuses Funds For Rink Maintenance

Student council rejects funding for university rink upkeep despite maintenance head Larry Wooddell proposing overtime pay to flood the ice and fix the toboggan slide. President Dr. Leebrick says the state, not students, funds grounds and buildings. The only action is urging student volunteers to help.

H E Club Reaches Halfway Mark in Penny Drive

The Home Economics club collected $20.53 last week to place sixth in the 10-team Penny league. Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority will run the “personal approach” campaign this week, while Alpha Omega sorority will follow, per Raymond Manchester. He notes any organization can join and each member can contribute multiple times.

Dr Garnett Leaves For Washington Post

Dr Wilma Leslie Garnett associate professor of English left Sun day to take a senior specialist post in extended school programs at the U S Office of Education in Washington D C. She began work yesterday with a federal security agency to study extended school services for communities with many employed mothers. Garnett joined Kent State in 1937 from Eastern State Normal Madison S D where she headed the education department.

Carl J Morris a University graduate has earned a second lieutenant commission after completing the officer candidate course at Infantry School Fort Benning Ga He previously held the rank of corporal at Camp Shelby Miss and was a member of Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity during college.

Lt. Dover Returns Home for Ten Day Leave

Second Lt. Mickey Dover arrives from Key Field Meridian Mississippi for a ten day leave to visit Kent and Cleveland home. He entered the Army in February 1941 and has served in Florida Colorado Louisiana Texas Alabama and Mississippi. Kent Stater via Penary drive reminds him of Kent through the country.

Returning serviceman tutors and plays on post basketball team

Lieutenant Dover praises Kent as a morale booster for men in service. The former Kent athlete, class of 1943, now serves as an instructor in physical training at Key Field and coaches the post basketball squad. He notes changes in the university’s largest class and the post’s athletic activities.
