Microgroove feud grows as Columbia ties with public on new records
The music industry debate centers on Microgroove records from Columbia and Victor. Columbia developed 33 rpm vinyl discs with nonbreakable vinylite and reduced surface noise, requiring new arms and slower turntables. Victor plans a 45 rpm rival, risking incompatibility and further industry division. Public prices: Popular albums $2.85, Masterworks $4.85. Les Brown and Gene Krupa albums released, with more formats slated.
