The KSU woman whose photo is chosen by Hope will be presented at the Burr dance on Friday Feb 14 in Wills gym. Last day for entries is tomorrow. About three dozen co-eds have entered the contest. The dance is formal and women will receive automatic late permits.
Roy Apple president of the Inter Fraternity Council announced a one dollar fee for male students pledging future fraternities. The funds will support council functions and improve organization. The fee takes effect with pledges scheduled for March 10, while initiation day for current pledges is February 2. Education week begins January 27.
Tryouts for new cheerleaders occur this afternoon at 4 in the auditorium. The cheerleading committee to oversee the process includes Hank Johnston and Roy Apple from student council and Mickey Dover and Bob Cook from the Booster club.
Gordon Cobbledick, renowned sports editor and columnist, will address the Journalism Club Wednesday at 4 p.m. in room 317 McGilvrey hall. Bob Casey announces the event with Bob Blumer introducing him on behalf of Chi Pi.
A student council meeting called off for lack of a quorum will be held today at 4 pm in 217 Merrill hall. Seven of the 15 members attended, with seven newly elected councilmen present for seating. Hank Johnston announced the session with attendees Barbara McDowell Edith Galloway Bill Lyon Jean Goncher Bob Duncan and Virginia Block.
Protege wins second place as Jule Brown, Ravenna High School senior and former student of R. L. Pearce, places in the Prince of Peace Declamation district contest. Last year Chris De John, now at Hiram College, won Ohio first in a similar event.
David Bailor program director of WGAR Cleveland will speak to business administration students in room 317 McGilvrey at 8 p m The talk is part of a Delta Sigma Pi series with Arthur Horrocks Goodyear goodwill ambassador to follow Bailor is the second speaker in the series sponsored by the business fraternity.
The Canton branch of KSU in McKinley High School stages And Then There Were None with Jim Bullock as Sir Lawrence Hargrave Jane Filler as Vera Claythorne and Duane Budner as Captain Lombard Felice Faust watches as Filler points a six shooter at Budner in a Courier-Tribune photo The play adapts Agatha Christie novel and runs January 24 at Canton venue.
President George A. Bowman announced the addition of ten new faculty at Kent State University approved at January trustees meeting. The group includes two associate professors, three assistant professors, and five instructors with a $1500 anonymous gift to aid needy students. Dr. Delbert C. Miller will be a visiting professor at the University of Washington during winter and spring.
President George A. Bowman travels from Kent to Boston for the Association of American Colleges annual meeting. He plans to return to campus Thursday after leaving Sunday night.
Commuters at KSU’s Moulton Hall are invited to use a basement lounge open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Supervisor Lena Ward notes the area is underutilized despite heavy foot traffic and hopes to install a record player to accompany the current card tables and seating. Smoking is allowed while relaxing.
Booster club sales reached 300 on Friday per president Mickey Dover and Gamma Sigma Phi sorority reached full membership to become the first Super Booster group. Sales continued this week from the Merrill hall hallway booth with hours from 10 to 12 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Booster cards sold for $1.
Glenn Votti and Al Weekley announced a staff reshuffle for Duchess. Hope Greener advances to managing editor with new associates Bob Wentz Ed Lynch and Phil Dempsey. George Ket chy leads photography with Betsy Fish Jim Rector as fashion editors and George Heaslip as publicity director.
