Co chairs Janet Irons and Ed Suvanto announce a February 20 deadline at 4 p.m. for entries to the Annual Pork Barrel. Entries from groups sororities independents dormitories and individuals require blanks from the co chairs. Elimination rounds run March 5 and 6 with practice dates set February 22 23 26 27 28 March 1 and 2.
The University Theater plans its annual formal dance in Wills Gymnasium on Saturday January 20 from 9 PM to 1 AM. Arlene Riggle is general chairman and Theater manager with Frank Haynes five piece band performing. Tickets for non members cost 1.25 per couple.
Graphic Arts Monthly reports purchase of a short manuscript by Marion Cole, a journalism freshman. The essay on the atmosphere of a print shop was written for an English composition fall assignment and marks her first publication in a nationally circulated periodical.
NTFC announces casting of Van Darby as the Frosh and Clarence Tonka as the professor for the new show. First rehearsal was a reading on Wednesday with Dr. William Shepherd in attendance. Ed Siennicki, veteran pianist, helps with orchestration. NTFC orchestra meets at 4 pm January 15 in Kent Hall room 119.

A preview of University Theater's Morning's at Seven directed by E Turner Stump will be in Hudson Ohio February 7. Cast includes Dave Ryan Edwin Suvanto Arlene Riggle Mary Haines Viola Cian Doris Stuart Oliver Ocasek Joan Shremp Ted Baskin. Backstage crew lists names and roles with Miss Riggle inviting male volunteers.
Lou Zaremba was elected vice president to succeed Ted Baskin who becomes president of the K-Vets at a meeting last Wednesday night. Six new members John Cropp Jack Cobb Bob Orr Dominic Amedeo Fred Ellis Gilbert Bee be invited to join. admittance contact secretary Dick Dussel for details.
E C Stopher registrar reports 91 students on honor roll for fall term. Seventy three earned 3.5 to 4.0, 197 were 3.0 to 3.5, and 18 carried 4.0 with 14+ credits. The notice names many students with high averages and credits, indicating strong academic performance.
The allocations committee distributed 4333 of the student activity fund to 15 University activities enabling winter plans. Publications Kent Stater received 1346 and Chestnut Burr 1350. Theater 240. forensics 210. Radio Workshop 50. Committees totals include entertainment 150 assembly 151 social 310 and music 125. intramural 65. art 36. Student Council 87.50. Men's Union 105 and Women's League 108. Varsity athletics did not submit.
The Office of War Activities announces a War Chest drive for February 21 to 28 led by chairwoman Norma Hakundy. A one dollar pledge will be circulated to meet this year’s organizational goal. An assembly will accompany the drive, and funds will support World Student Service Fund Red Cross Tuberculosis Fund and Infantile Paralysis Fund.
The senior class selected E. C. Stopher registrar as class advisor. Bud Gerber president named committees including invitation chair Dorothy Humphries Frances Canner and Dorothy Swoboda. Ruth Erickson became social chairman as plans for class day and the senior dance were discussed. Class dues set at 1.50 with Jim Patterson Peg Curry and Elsie Stalzer on the class gift panel.
Petitions for Student Council vacancies must be signed by 10 percent of the class and returned to the Student Council office by Friday January 12. Don Wargowsky elections chairman notes similar rules apply for two freshman seats in Men's Union. Election to fill posts scheduled for Tuesday January 23.
The University purchased more than 2500 in lab gear for physics classes. Four photo electric light meters and a precise freely falling body apparatus with electric recording were added. Dr. Glenn Q Lefler notes the equipment will let students follow the text more closely and yield valuable results. All items were formerly Army property used by cadets at the University.
An exhibit of Spanish magazines pictures pamphlets and books is on display in the University library. Acting librarian Dr Weldon M Williams said the collection was a gift from Dr W J Burner former head of the foreign languages department who retired last summer. Featured items include En Guardia and Pan American Day issues.
