Pork Barrel may be staged in early May after the committee failed to reserve the auditorium for eliminations Feb 19 to 23. May 3 and 4 are the earliest possible dates with a committee meeting set today at 4 PM in the Union to finalize.
Kent State University's 16 faculty members in the active U S Army reserves face possible recall to duty. Ohio District chief Col H Jordon Theis said 60 captains and 236 lieutenants in the district will be recalled in the first installment. Names will go to Ft Meade Md by Jan 12. the campus already lists other reserve members across air force navy and marine units.
Approximately 500 directors and students from Northeast Ohio high schools are expected to attend a Saturday clinic at the university. Dr. Benno D. Frank of the Lyric Theatre Karamu House Cleveland will speak, with faculty demonstrations on dramatic production. An open curtain production of The Merchant of Venice will be staged to let the audience study between scene work. Professor G. Harry Wright chairs the event with student theater staff aid.
An informal ROTC inspection will be held on the University campus next Tuesday at 1 p.m. Lt. Col. Frank C. Mandell announces Col. B. Wolfe of the Ohio military district and Lt. Col. C. P. Rowan will participate. The review covers ROTC classes and facilities, with two or three inspections annually.
The new Arts building was finished in 15 months aided by faculty during Christmas holidays. Emil Berg notes both industrial arts and arts faculty helped move classes and shops. The $790,000 facility houses lecture, sculpture, art gallery, libraries, studios, shops, and drafting rooms with a dust collector and steam heat for bright workspaces.
University of Dayton freshmen present Seven Keys to Baldpate with vaudeville acts at Memorial hall Dayton at 8 15 p m under Prof G Harry Wright. Bernard Rossi and Margaret Sidley lead with tap dances and imitations. Woody Herman’s herd appears for Top Hop Feb 10 in Wills gym with Dolly Houston. admission 1 per couple. Miss Kent State election to be held later.
All seniors in the college of business administration planning to graduate in March or June must file an application for graduation in the Registrar's Office at once, according to Arden L. Allyn, dean of the college.
The Tenth Annual Short Course in Press Photography at KSU will run March 20 21 22 and 23 with William C. Eckenberg of the New York Times directing. James A. Fosdick notes the program trains practicing photographers on current products techniques and conditions in Kent State Union and Arts building. The advisory council includes Yates Churchill Costa Greenfield Hamm Kneal Cody Cragg Kuster Sarno Scherschel Walker Jones Boyd and Grass among others from major papers and magazines.
Preliminary judging for the Chestnut Burr queen will be held in Moulton hall music room next Wednesday at 6 30 p.m. A student faculty panel of five judges will select finalists from four class levels. Eligible candidates must have a 2.0 cumulative average and 2.0 last quarter. Judging is open to the public.
Dr. W. Leslie Garnett of the English department has been named by President George A. Bowman as a lone committee on study abroad. The group coordinates with the Commission on International Cooperation in Education to provide scholarships fellowships tuition living costs transport and language programs. Students planning graduate or undergraduate study abroad should arrange early, especially for Paris language courses in September and October.
High school science instructors will learn about atomic raid effects and protective measures at the Radiological Civilian Defense Conference to be held at Kent State University on Saturday. Instructors include Dr. G. H. Chapman Dr. G. H. Schoepfle and Dr. A. C. Wolfe with an Akron University session January 20 for Medina and Summit counties, Chapman aiding there as well.
