Under a new War Assets administration ruling Kansas State University may obtain surplus property through the Federal Works agency until March 31. Merle Wagoner and Emil Berg have sourced office and building materials via the program with discounts up to 95 percent. The extension, originally set to end December 31, 1946, now runs to March 31, 1947 with much surplus property donated to the university through the educational donation program with the state department of education.
The Kent Stater invites news items from every university department. Editors request submissions by phone the day before a Monday Tuesday or Thursday edition preferably in the morning.
University men and women who served in the Marines and want to form a Marine club are asked to contact Dan Tiedmond via his mailbox today.
Johnnie Woods and his band perform social dancing tonight at Wills gym starting at 8 p.m. Admission is 15 cents plus an activities ticket under the University Veterans auspices. President Bob Duncan announced plans for two more dances.
Persons desiring to teach in Ohio or out of state systems must register for the national teachers examinations before Jan. 12. Exams will be held at the university on Feb. 8 and 15 with arrangements for university students to take them on those dates. Further information is available from the university appointments office.
An opportunity for new students to join university debate activities will be offered at the first winter quarter meeting on Thursday Jan 9 at 7 30 p m in room 315 Kent hall. James N Holm director of forensics will welcome new members and review a full schedule of activities planned for the winter and spring quarters.
University men were urged to assist in the Kent district's annual Boy Scout program. Contact L. T. Close, district chairman, at 3314 or 4020 for involvement.
The University Veterans Association schedules a 7 p.m. meeting in 317 McGilvary Hall. Professor Dewey F. Barich, coordinator of veterans affairs, will address attendees.
Veterans who enlisted under the new type certificate must submit discharge papers or a photostatic copy to the VA heating plant office at once, says Dewey F. Barich veterans coordinator. The directive says discharges or copies must accompany certificates before sending them to VA headquarters. New GI students must turn in discharges or lose pay until processed.
Final distribution of the 1946 Chestnut Burrs will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Clarence Tonka, business manager, urges saving activity cards to claim the 1947 Chestnut Burr next spring.
Bill Lyon chairman says the social committee will hear representatives from student organizations to express opinions on current university regulations at a 4 p.m. meeting in Merrill Hall 203 today.
