Registration figures show 4,582 students enrolled this winter quarter, down from 4,768 last fall. Registrar E. C. Stopher cites crowded facilities and weather as reasons, with late registrations expected to bring total to about 4,700. Canton branch enrollment to hold near 650.
Council tabled a proposed amendment to replace the current allocations with an eight member board to allocate student activity fees. Four faculty and four students would serve on the board. The Who's Who list included nineteen students named by a committee led by Dean Raymond Manchester.
A protest over missing election figures was delayed as the elections committee chair was absent. The Pan Coalition swept 85 of 39 offices, with independents claiming freshman president and secretary posts and several Blue Star candidates winning council seats.
Three of five barracks become temporary dormitories for veterans as 150 students move in. Bill Pilati of Negley and Paul Harris of Steubenville are among the residents. Buildings, started in October, were slated for the South Pacific and three are finished with two more nearing completion, says Emil Berg.
After exam week ends the campus returns to normal as faculty and students reconcile. The piece notes resumed campus chatter about history topics and social plans while mentioning changes in study habits and note content. Three freshmen leave campus with suitcases signaling the return to routine.
The university Booster club meets at 4 p.m. in room 107 Merrill hall to adopt a constitution drafted by Mickey Dover and outline a campus wide membership drive starting Thursday. A drive headquarters booth is set between Merrill hall and the atrium for poster appeals and canvassing by campus organizations.
Bob White announced that the Student Service Association will meet today at 4 p.m. in room 210 Kenthall. The notice identifies the president and the meeting location and time.
A committee will meet Thursday to approve lecturer selections and dates. Planned speakers include Langston Hughes on January 14 at 11 am, H H Chang on January 30 at 10 am, and Paul Engel on February 5 at 2 pm. Committee members are Dr W L Garnett Dr D C Miller Miss A H Haley John B Nicholson Betty Hoy Shirley Leurenberger Ruth Hoehn Dona Mae Burkhardt.
Dean Leonard Mayo of Western Reserve University spoke on progress and problems of Ohio's child welfare programs at a lecture in the auditorium last night.
The 1947 Chestnut Burr queen will be chosen February 1. Any university woman is eligible and the winner will receive a full page in the Burr. Entries are eight by ten glossy prints submitted to Burr office room 113 Merrill Hall. Co-eds may have pictures taken by contacting Al Geitgey. all photos due Friday January 10.
