Irv Wheatley announces Miss Kent State 1949 election by the student body this month. A committee will select three candidates from applicants based on campus activity, scholarship, and service, with nominees required to be juniors or seniors and hold at least a 2.5 average.
A quarterly trophy will be awarded to the Terrace Lodge Bar rack with the highest overall student average. Dean of men Raymond E. Manchester revealed the plan noting the cup rotates among barracks and records the winning name and date. The Dean Manchester Scholarship trophy is the first cup exclusively for Terrace Lodge residents.
An army intelligence unit attached to the university held its first organizational meeting. Supervised by Prof. Robert H. Esser the wartime officer, the unit will join the organized reserve corps and specialize in languages. It includes a headquarters detachment a POW interrogation team interpreters and translators. Recruitment will draw from students faculty and local linguists with a special demand for Slavic languages. Reservists and non reservists may join at previous ranks and civilians may enlist in rank suitable to ability.
The Russian Arts Club will show the film The Battle For Russia at the next meeting on January 20. Time and place to be announced. At the last meeting Chris Lardis was elected president with Frank Fedorka as vice president Paul Klubert as secretary and Joe Biros as treasurer. Advisor is B Mikofsky, assistant professor of foreign languages.
Chi Pi men’s journalism honorary called to an important meeting today at 1 p.m. in the States office, announced President Larry Vitsky. The notice emphasizes full attendance by all members.
University Theater will stage Lillian Hellman's Another Part of the Forest from January 20 to 22 directed by Prof. Earle Curtis. Tickets go on sale January 11 at the ticket office. students may use activity cards with no extra fee. The play, part two of a Hellman trilogy following The Little Foxes, originated on Broadway and became a film starring Frederick March and Edmund O'Brien.
Seniors who have not been photographed for the 1949 Chestnut Burr or want retakes must appear in the Moulton music room Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bob Phillips, chief photographer, says this is the final chance to be included in the yearbook.

The Student council appointed a student faculty committee to draft changes to the constitution. President Phil Dempsey said administration fully approved the proposal and Dr. George A Bowman termed the changes necessary.
A faculty pianist discusses multi step action to revise the university constitution. A two thirds council vote then student and faculty approval precede administration sign off. Appointments include Council members Wise Wade Milford Ruth Mason Dempsey Fletcher and faculty members Chapman Dunning Fosdick Satterfield Matson.
Two hundred student directories remain as the winter quarter sale ends today and Monday. Don Smith, distribution chairman, says printing costs prevent a reprint. The directories include student addresses, phone numbers, campus org heads, an administrative listing, and local numbers with proceeds aiding the University Stadium drive. Alpha Gamma Delta and Beta Gamma coordinate selling for the sororities, Blue Key sponsors the printing, and a trophy will go to the winner.
The university may hire Shep Fields orchestra for the Top Hop dance on Jan 28. Roger Howard reports negotiations nearly complete for a semi formal event with tuxedos, admission 1.50 per couple, and Queen Miss Kent State to be presented during intermission.
Seniors expecting to graduate in March or June should file applications promptly at the Registrar's office. The announcement from Dean Arden Allyn notes that all colleges are included.
