The annual student stunt night titled Pork Barrel will be held Friday Feb 4. Entry blanks from the Dean of Women’s office must be filled and returned by 4 pm next Wednesday Jan 12. Groups from dorms sororities fraternities clubs and independents may enter eight minute skits. all participants need two fall term grades.
Miss Mona Fletcher, political science professor, earned a doctorate from Ohio State University for a dissertation on a decade of bicameralism in Ohio. Miss Edna Eisen, geography associate professor, completed her doctorate at the University of Chicago after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees there.
Registrar Charles E. Atkinson reports winter enrollment projected around 5400, the highest for a winter quarter yet 400 below last quarter's 5800. At least 160 freshmen or transfer students enrolled this quarter. about 150 graduates last quarter. roughly 200 dropped out for financial reasons. Dismissals totaled 66 across colleges with 26 Education 17 Business Administration and 23 Liberal Arts.
An explosion caused by a gas leak damaged the Alpha Xi Delta house on Sunday afternoon, with about 2000 dollars in damages. No injuries were reported as residents moved to campus dormitories. housemother Mrs. O N Young was present during the blast.
Kent State University will join 19 colleges and universities from seven states at the Great Lakes Area Forensic tournament on Jan 7 and 8 at Bowling Green State University. Debaters Warren Lashley Norman Bertellotti Cletus Fisher Eugene Berrodin and Robert L Kent will compete in debate and original oratory on the topic Federal Aid to Education.
Miss Arline Markussen, faculty pianist, presents a piano recital of Mozart Bach Chopin Debussy and Hindemith in the auditorium at 8 this evening. She recently joined the faculty from Drake and has Carnegie Hall experience as a state winner. Her education includes bachelor and master degrees from Northwestern University.
The Stater announces continuation of the short story contest with the first winner due Friday Jan 14. Entries must be at noon Monday Jan 10 to Sylvester Nemes with no word limit now allowed. Changes include no 1000 word cap and eligibility for Stater staff. weekly prize remains $5. stories not carried over to next week.
Hanson Baldwin New York Times military editor speaks Tuesday at 8 15 in the auditorium on Security in the Atomic Age. A 24 year journalist, Baldwin won the 1942 Pulitzer for South Pacific battle-area reporting and has radio and film credits plus eight military books. The forum committee sponsors the public program.
The national teachers examination will be held here on February 19 for the common test and February 26 for optional tests, announced by Dr. Lester H. Munzenmayer. Sponsoring body is the American Council of Education. college students receive special rates. Registration and fee payment must be completed by January 22.
University organizations are asked to provide information on sponsorship of events for the Memorial Stadium drive. For proper credit, clubs fraternities or sororities must submit details to William H. Poor publicity director at 114M by Friday January 7.
