Walter White to Speak for NAACP Program

Walter White, executive secretary of the NAACP, will address the assembly committee on Tuesday March 7 at 11 am. Born in Atlanta, he has led NAACP efforts since 1918 and as secretary since 1931. He investigated 41 lynchings and eight race riots, and earned the Spingarn Medal in 1937 plus other honors.

VA Reminder Highlights GI Enrollment Deadline

The Veterans Administration urges World War II veterans to enroll in classes before July 25 to qualify for G I bill benefits. Veterans discharged before July 1946 must start by July 25, while those discharged after have four years to begin schooling. Exclusions include pre medical or dental coursework without entry, graduates pursuing further training, and teachers taking summer courses.

ROTC will sell 100 tickets for its Military Ball to be held March 2 in East Market gardens. Tickets go on sale until Friday at booths between Kent and Merrill halls, announced Sol Baltimore, ticket chairman.

Harvey Rabbits Parade Campus To Promote UT Play

On Feb 19 Kent logged 150 white Harvey rabbits rising to 500 by Feb 23 to publicize the University theatre production of Mary Chase's Harvey opening tomorrow at 8 15 p m in the auditorium. Four performances plus a Saturday matinee are set with tickets sold between Kent hall and the Atrium.

Stater Burr Bids Due for Student Publications Posts

Deadline for Stater and Burr positions is Friday. Applications must be eight copies and submitted to the Student Faculty Publications Policy committee. The committee meets Wednesday March 7 at 3 p.m. in Merrill Hall to review candidates and all must read the Standard Operating Procedure.

Carnival Totals Show Fraternity Sorority Winners

Penny Carnival raised 835 for campus projects with Alpha Phi Beta leading fraterni ties at 121 from Log and Nail and Test Your Nerve. Gamma Phi Beta earned 92.55 for sorority trophy, Sigmaphi 28 for women's independent, Stopher hall 9.86 top men, with Delta Zeta 49.86 and Alpha Xi Delta 41.90 trailing. Delta Upsilon 43.20 and Alpha Epsilon Pi 33.34 led fraternities. Independent women Moult on 20 and Lowry 16. Chi Alpha 9.06 and Sigma Alpha 7 in men. ISA and Booster club entries did not win trophies. Proceeds fund Stater penny, WSSF, Blue Key and Cardinal Key funds.

Kent Debaters Win Ohio Conference Championship at Capital

Kent State's men's debate team captured the Ohio Conference title at Capital University Columbus over a two day meet. The squad went 11 1 with one loss led by Ron Rice and Tom McManus who went six for six on the affirmative and Sheldon Portman and Al Pontius who went five for six on the negative. The only defeat came from Earlham College's negative team. Kent's wins over Earlham Baldwin Wallace Heidelberg Ohio Wesleyan and Case Tech keyed the championship with a 14 inch gold cup awarded for first place. The season also saw a freshmen second in Case Tech novice, a varsity second in the Buckeye Tournament, and a women's third in the conference. Invitations to national and Rose Bowl events are possible.
