Frank Pete reports that a booming ceramics sector lacks Kent State training due to missing facilities. Despite state ed directives and a university bid for equipment, funding was rejected, leaving a critical course space unfilled as industry growth outpaces education.
Womankind tested sartorial norms by wearing trousers in university kitchens prompting an campus-wide debate on tradition. Two home economics majors faced sanction from Miss Bertha Nixson over sanitation and taste rules as students argued for gender equality in dress.
James Curry head of the Akron Beacon Journal composing room will speak at an open meeting of Chi Pi at Journal ism House 528 E Summit St tonight at 8 p m His talk titled How To Win and Influence Composing Room Men will be heard by invited journalism faculty members.
A survey of 483 college students by Dr. Harry D. Wolfe's marketing class shows strong student movie interest despite competing events like bank nights bingo and trailers. Half of one percent never attend. historical musical and light comedy are favorites. Thirty percent cite advertising as a reason for attending.
Roberta Louise White a 20 year old Kent State University student was named Princess of the fourth annual Short Course to be held March 18 to 22 in Kent. About 300 photographers from over 20 states will attend to photograph her in many positions and costumes. Miss White a Shaw High School graduate from Cleveland is noted for hair modeling and photogenic looks.
Four students Charles Earhart Edward Lewis Edward Wendart and Russell E Goodwin received summer scholarships to the Ford Trade School in Detroit at the second annual industrial arts banquet. Prof C B Van Deusen head of the department announced the awards. Earl Mason Cleveland schools curriculum manager spoke as principal. Van Deusen noted the honors usually go to Detroit area students and Kent recipients are especially honored.
The university band under Prof. Roy D. Metcalf performs at 8 15 tonight in the auditorium. The program includes Bohne’s Andante Perpetum Mobile by Strauss and a cornet trio by Arthur Sill Harold Schlegel and Gladys Mumaw.
Universal photographer Bob Blair, a 12 year veteran, shot a reel at the University featuring Kent beauties for the annual Short Course in News Photography. He plans to film Lackawanna steel strike coverage next, recalling a 1937 Little Steel strike in Ohio and Indiana.
Capt. C. D. Riggle of the United States Army will address Prof. H. R. Nissley’s class at 3 o’clock this afternoon, presenting a plan for a definite future for college men in military service.
