The Don Cossack Chorus led by Serge Jaroff will perform at Kent State University on Monday February 24 under YMCA sponsorship. The famed ensemble, dating from postwar camps, plans a new program of stirring songs, with tickets $1 and 50 cents.
The note wishes E. C. Stopher, Kent State University registrar, a happy belated birthday anniversary. It mentions his approval of registrants and hopes Kent students decide on their courses, enroll, and be satisfied, ending with a festive birthday wish for another year.
The Faculty Wives club will entertain their husbands with a covered dish supper at Lowry dining hall tomorrow night starting at 6 30 p m Bridge and other games are planned with Mrs E C Stopher as chairwoman The committee includes Mrs A W Stewart Mrs C Sheldon Van Deusen and Mrs J W Dirkson Mrs K C Leebrick presides over the club which maintains three groups the bridge sewing and literary groups meeting monthly.
Tonight from 9 to 12 the Greek war relief dance at Wills gymnasium raises money for the national Greek relief fund in New York City. Evzone students in traditional dress will add authenticity, with Bernie May’s orchestra, Helen Harter, Ed Siennicki and Jean Oak performing. A quiz bee and group singing cap the intermission, under George Condos’s overall committee.
Tead, lecturer on administrative problems, will address the question What Must Democracy Do To Be Saved on Monday February 10 in room 317 McGilvrey hall. A panel discussion will follow with audience participation.
A University infirmary report shows four patients discharged yesterday: Stewart Fern, Bob Huxtable, Irene Hunt, and Bill Mural. One new admission, Jean Mellick, increased patient count slightly.
Women students seeking part time child care or babysitting jobs are asked to see Assistant Dean Jeanne Parrish at the Office of the Dean of Women. Students who filled out work cards last semester should report and those employed outside class hours in Kent must report to the dean of women's office by Friday February 14 to complete a work statement.
Senior class dues of three dollars will be collected at the entrance to Wills gymnasium on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Treasurer John Steiner announced the fund drive.
The article corrects yesterday’s notice that Gerhart Seger principal Institute of Learning speaker would speak at 11 a m Thursday. The lecture titled An Impoverished World will now be at 11 a m today in room 317 McGilvrey hall.
Wesley Foundation to poll students to select five questions to be answered in a Christian manner by Bishop William C. Martin of Omaha during his campus visit February 18. Martin attends the National Christian Mission in Cleveland February 16 to 23 and will speak at Senior Men's luncheon and a student convocation with interviews and an after-dinner talk. The program stems from polls and small group discussions led by Rev. Robert S. Clemmons, urging students to submit questions from evolving beliefs as parental church teachings seem outdated.
Gene Moulton of Kent State will represent Kent State in the Ohio Men’s Intercollegiate Oratory Contest. Twelve northeastern Ohio colleges will send contestants to three preliminary centers on Feb 14 with two winners from each division. Moulton will present I Knew Abe Lincoln at Wooster College and, if he wins, advance to the finals at Denison University on Feb 21.
Freshmen who missed entrance exams will take makeup tests on February 10 at 4 in room 219 Kent Hall. Dr. Edna Lotz, associate professor of psychology, announced yesterday.
Ruth Greenwood reports Phyllis Fuller of Moulton Hall celebrates her 18th birthday mirroring her mother’s KSU era. The new graduate in elementary education lives in the same dorm on the same floor, pursues flute in band and orchestra, and enjoys dramatics.
