The Chi Pi publications banquet proceeds at 8 p.m. in the Mayflower Akron with $90 allotted for 80 tickets for Stater and Burr staff. Guest list includes William L Powers and other editors. student council must approve expenditures.
William J. Smith a Kent State alum and attorney in Kent and Ravenna filed for the Democratic primaries to become Kent mayor. A former pre law student 1933 35 and Sigma Tau Gamma member he was councilman at large at 22 and earned a law degree from Akron University.
Students signed to take the National Teachers examination will receive the common exam at 8 am Saturday in room 207 Kent hall. Dr L H Munzenmayer, in charge, notes optional tests in major and minor fields at the same time.
Mike Friedland and his Solitu ders perform tonight for social dancing from 8 to 10 in Willsgymn. President Bob Duncan of University veterans, sponsor of the affair, says admission is 15 cents with a student activities ticket.
There will be no Easy Chair program tomorrow night as the Kent Akron basketball game takes precedence. Dean Ada V Hyatt notes Miss Alice Haley was to speak on Gracious Living.
Cardinal Key announces a 7 p.m. meeting in room 108 Kent Hall led by president Kay Tolt. The national women's service honorary gathers to discuss plans and activities.
A court of nine will attend the Top Hop Miss Kent State event on Friday night at Top Hop. Agnes Sawyer, arrangements chairman, urged dorms to submit representative names. Tickets are $2 per couple, with Bob Chester and his band playing from 9 to 1.
Registrar E C Stopher approved the candidacy of Mrs Marcye Huston Armington after a late decision cited 96 quarter hours and junior eligibility issues. Miss Dona Mae Burkhardt disclosed the correction and said written permission is expected. A student council meeting will discuss the situation this afternoon.
Dr. Paul Engle of the University of Iowa argues that poetry is a rhythmical expression of an idea emotionally felt. He rejects the idea that poets live in sin and hunger and says no one can be taught to write.
University appointments office reports many calls from summer camps seeking student group and craft leaders. Applications blanks for jobs are available now at the office, says Dr. L. H. Muzenmayer, appointments director.
Regina Hanway an assistant professor of English and Albert Tischendorf a professor of industrial arts will address a conference on teaching methods. The event takes place Friday at ReDurban School near Canton under Stark County schools supervision.
The University Theater completes casting for Shakespeare's Othello to be staged January 19 20 and 21. Don Shanower plays Othello La Una Shenefield Desdemona. Don Desimio is Iago. Russ Gillis is Cassio Jim Bullock Brasantio Bob Smiley Ladocio and Carol Hart Brance Duke Montano and Gratiano are performed by R Uray Duane Budner and Alan Hammock respectively.
An overflow audience enjoyed Miss Jean Dickenson in a university auditorium recital Monday night. Her light voice suited for musical frivolities, she offered easy vocal gymnastics and humorous explanations, with some semi serious pieces showing limited emotional depth. Accompanist Robert MacDonald performed competently, outshining her in difficult selections, while the university’s piano appeared well worn.
