Sophomore Sweater Swagger at Kent State Night of Dances

The Kent State University Sophomore class hosts the second annual Sweater Swagger in Wills Gym from 10 to 1. The event follows Sweater Day, with booster club and local merchants aiding the effort. A shag contest awards a silver trophy to a boy and a girl. Comedians Stanley Mouse and Bill Guise White perform a skit. About 300 couples are expected based on ticket sales.

Chaperones for Dance Don Sweaters

Curtains Rise On Beggar On Horseback At University Theatre

The University Theatre opens Beggar On Horseback in its tenth season with one of its largest casts. Directed by Prof. E Turner Stump the Pulitzer satire features eight freshmen and stars Paul Zeller Mary Men Hayes Stanley Mouse Joe Calta Fritzie Koole Elaine Evans and Don Taylor. Tickets available in the speech office for today and Friday performances.

Several Former Students Return to Kent State Enrollment Rises

Kent State reports 85 new registrations lifting second semester enrollment to 2354, 96 below Stopher’s estimate. Some students may still depart as weekend classes and center programs are not counted. Notable returnees include Sam Farkas, a Cleveland athlete, and Dorothy Dyson, chosen to represent Kent in the Battle of Beauties.

Death Claims Kent Graduate Ella Lamb Ingersoll

Mrs. Ella Lamb Ingersoll, 67, died Tuesday night at Akron St. Thomas hospital. One of Kent State Normal School’s first enrollees, she graduated from Kent in 1916, taught in Warren for four years, then earned a 1925 Bachelor of Science degree at Kent. She studied at Columbia University and was among the district’s oldest educators with many former pupils prominent in business and public life.

Kelly to Speak At Chi Pi Dinner

Eugene Kelly, director of Cleveland Public Schools, will be the principal speaker at the Chi Pi dinner for the journalism department’s winter meeting at the Robin Hood. High school journalists will tour the campus on High School day and a novel entertainment program is planned by Jack Watts, August Quattrochi, and Hube Briers. Reservations with Briers by Friday noon. 50 cents.

Capitalistic Acts Shown In Forum Speech Last Night

Margarete H Kaiser told students and townspeople in an auditorium lecture sponsored by the Kent Rotary club that capitalism enriches the few at the expense of the many. She said Germany remains capitalist during wartime with France, trading coal for iron, and claimed France hides Jewish refugees to gain military information. Kaiser described her journey to America and her internment in France at the war’s outbreak.
