Dr. Gertrude Moulton head of Oberlin College womans physical education department told almost 100 HPE club members last night that depriving youths aged 15 to 21 of organized sport harms democracy. She was the first woman to speak at the annual HPE banquet in 15 years.
Students without activity cards should meet in the registrar's office now. BE. C. Stopher, registrar, announced yesterday.
The YWCA assumes control of the penny drive from the dean of men's office as bundles from Kent University publications fund aid to former students in the armed services. The drive runs through June with the Young Women’s Christian Association in charge this week and the Women's Athletic Association contributing $5.50 last week.
School physician Dr. A O DeWeese reports three students confined to the infirmary yesterday. Names given include Dick McGinnis George Ebel Ray Kubuski and Lola Jean Bibbs.
Seventy women received sorority bids on campus with two Pi Kappa Sigma invitations. Bid recipients span Alpha Omega Beta Gamma Gamma Sigma Phi Pi Kappa Sigma Sigma Sigma Sigma Theta Sigma Upsilon and include Ruth Cowan Frances Fulmer Jean Carlozzi Jane Cowell Betty Jones Virginia Raymont Jane McDowell Mildred Grabowsky Dorothy Humphrey Katharine Hahn Audrey Heckman Rose mary Lane Wanda Glover Earline Bosserman Verna Buelow Sheila Gilcrest and more.
The Psi Chi radio program scheduled for 4 p m Tuesday is postponed to Tuesday December 9. Dr D W Pearce faculty adviser with Yvonne Horton Jackie Richner and John Felsinger will discuss psychology's role in national defense on the radio workshop.
Bob Rector and Alice Cox selected as new cheerleaders for the basketball season. Ralph Braden, head cheerleader, announced the news. Betty Dally Don Kelly and Braden remain from football season. new uniforms arrive after the first game, in time for the Findlay clash.
Christmas seals for 1941 are on sale in the atrium. Betty Gorrich, president of the Women's Athletic association, sponsors the sale in the school. Students and faculty are urged to stop by the table with extra pennies to aid the fight against tuberculosis in Portage County.
A. O. Porter of the Akron Better Business Bureau spoke at the Commerce club meeting in MacGilvery Hall about exposing frauds and consumer control. He cited fake gold mine rackets and outlined how bureaus curb such schemes before about 50 students.
The Colgate University Student Forensic Association will send two teams to the Northern Ohio Novice tournament at Hiram College Saturday. J. N. Holm directs the forensics. First team members Ed Dreger Bernie Harris and Herb Myers Edgar Chapman will argue the affirmative while Stella Greenbaum Virginia Essig take the negative. Second team Elizabeth Exley and Grace Quay will present the affirmative. A debate with Colgate is scheduled in room 316 Kent Hall tomorrow. Forensic club members meet tonight at 7 in 316 Kent Hall for final prep before Saturday.
Dr. H D Byrne, head of the parking committee, argues intramural groups oppose using part of the former athletic field for a 200 to 300 car lot. The intramural committee, led by Prof. G J Altmann, had voted against the plan citing distance and disruption concerns.
Dr Maurice Baum director said university forum meetings will be discontinued until the early part of January. The committee will seek outside speakers on contemporary problems to address the student body and community concerns.
The unsung stage crews at the university have cut paid positions from seven NYA students to three due to tighter budgets. Under Roger Wilkin, four to seven crew members built elaborate scenery for The World We Live In opening tonight at 8 15.
