John W Dirkson, 62, retires from Kent State after a teaching career beginning in 1914 and a wartime role teaching GI students by correspondence. He designed automatic tire building machines, held 11 patents, and earned Ohio’s first manual arts certificate in 1929. He lives at 857 Brycerd.

Prof. Andrew W Paton anticipates normal fall flight school enrollment after adjusting to the new financing system. Oliver Luey, now associate professor, will co-lead the A and E mechanical program with aviation mechanics training planned for the fall. Vets Have 2 Years To Get Compensation
Unemployed veterans discharged before July 26 1947 must apply for readjustment allowances within two years after hostilities end. Title V of the G I Bill ends July 25 1949 per 80th Congress. Ohio veterans may choose 20 dollars weekly for 52 weeks from the state or 21 weekly from the federal government, not both, with claims handled by local Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation offices.

Ellis To Take Leroy Position In Ohio Education Degree
Fred B. Ellis Jr, president of the graduating class, will receive a bachelor of science degree in education at Kent State University on August 29 at 10 a.m. He will become head coach at Leroy High School in Leroy Ohio starting September 8. He is the son of Fred B. Ellis and wife and has been active in allocations committee Varsity K club and was sophomore class vice president. He served with the Army medical corps during the war.
