John C Metcalfe told a university audience that Nazis and fascists are reorganizing in the United States and may seek to overthrow the government. He cited collaboration with communist groups and warned Germany remains central to world power.
Eight year old pianist David Taylor Ogden will present a concert Tuesday evening August 16 at 8 30 in the university auditorium. The prodigy began showing musical talent at five weeks and debuted publicly in Cleveland March 13 1948 at age seven. He will perform works by Mozart Schubert Grieg Bedellson Edmundson Beethoven Fletcher McKinley Bach Chopin Rachmaninoff Kern with organ accompaniment by George K Ogden and lessons from Ruth Herman praised as a fun focused teacher.
At Ft George Meade Maryland the university ROTC encampment featured Kent's corps taking second place in a ten company amateur show directed by Charles Kray. The skit titled Kent's Radio Varieties starred Ed Correia Preston Knight William Liptak Richard Love and Charles Kray.
Fall registration will run on August 24 and August 16 with completion by September 1. Registrar C. E. Atkinson urges all students to finish registration including fee payment and class tickets to secure chosen classes. Fall quarter begins September 28 and grades are due by noon September 3.
The barn dance set for this evening in Engleman Hall lounge has been postponed causing local attendees to adjust plans. Event organizers did not announce a new date.
Two College of Education faculty, Dr Olive Woodruff and Janet C Rees, spoke on language arts trends and materials at the Ashland County teachers workshop held at Montgomery school near Ashland. The session ran 1 to 4 p m with workshops directed by Ashland County Superintendent W B Moffett and open to voluntary participation by county teachers. The event began Tuesday and continued through yesterday.
Ohio State Superintendent Clyde Hissong said high school teachers are now adequate for the first time in ten years. Portage county reports full staffing with few vacancies while elementary schools still face shortages. The rise follows 3,280 education majors earning certificates.
Kent police found an overnight bag on W Main St with initials B V. Police believe the bag belongs to a college student. Greek Rebels Active continue clashes with Yugoslav and Albanian guerillas using American equipment. Showers break heat spell. weather bureau expects a brief cool spell. Senate debate on calling General MacArthur home over China. Tom Connally supports, others seek more detail.
Color girls interested in serving as color girls for commencement are asked to see Bertha E. Whitton, assistant professor of health and physical education, in her office on the west balcony of the gymnasium. A paper will be left outside the office door if Miss Whitton is not in. Girls are requested to wear white dresses for the one rehearsal.
KSU art student Ray Jay Ashdown will display his works at the Artists and Craftsmen's Association gallery in Cleveland from August 14 to 31. His watercolor still life titled "Supper Time" was praised by Louise Bruner of the Cleveland News as an interesting arrangement of forms outlined in heavy black and more sophisticated than the gallery average.
The Phi Beta Phi fraternity hosts the second annual Summer Frolic at Moonlight Gardens in Myers Lake park Canton from 9 to 12 p.m. Friday Aug 19. Ray Robinson and his orchestra perform for a $1 admission with tickets available at 603 E Main St or from fraternity members.
