Metcalfe appears in a week of events including a women's orchestra lecture tonight and a concert Thursday. A barn dance is planned in Engleman hall Friday evening with Aug. events to follow.
John C. Metcalfe renowned reporter and lecturer will speak in the university auditorium at 8:30 p.m. The program includes a lecture on foreign policy and a concert segment featuring the Cleveland Women's Orchestra conducted by Hyman Schandler. Admission is free. cookies and lemonade will be served.
Dr. H. F. Kilander director of the health education workshop opened yesterday. He is an educator writer and administrator who previously served with the U. S. Office of Education and with the Federal Security Agency. The two week conference will emphasize teacher education and the high school instructional program.
Phi Beta Phi plans its second annual summer dance at Moonlight Gardens Myers Lake Canton from 9 to 12 p.m. Friday Aug 19 with Ray Robinson and his orchestra. Admission is 1.00 per person, tickets from members or at the door. Proceeds go to the university stadium fund.
University associate history professor Dr. Maury D. Baker recently returned from a year abroad. He details six months in Chile under a State Department fellowship studying independence wars and a 27 day sea voyage with storms off the Magellan Strait. He notes South American curiosity about the United States and gadget trends since the war.
Senior announcements may be received today and tomorrow at the Booster booth through 4 p.m. Dues of 1 dollar may be paid at the same time.
Otis Miller a 20 year old university student and Akron YMCA gymnastics team member is in serious condition at Peoples hospital after a double back flip on a trampoline at Camp Y-Noah Saturday. Attendants fear neck and spinal injuries. Miller is a freshman in the college of education and Coventry high school graduate.
Kent police were called when a three foot black university snake from the biology department roamed the campus near McGilvrey hall. Patrolman Stefan captured it in a ventilated fish bait can and booked it at the city jail amid concerns over its escape.
