A staged campus satire features a Kent State student posing as a Soviet spy during a Northeastern Ohio school press clinic. The mock drill ends with mobs, police intervention, and the narrator declaring, after the chaotic scene, that Americans remain safe from communism.
Colgate University’s baseball team travels to Kent for a K Day clash with the Flash diamond squad. Colgate, boasting a strong eastern program, has a mound staff returnees from 1948 and is coached by Eppie Barnes, former Pirates star and first president of the American Association of College Baseball Coaches.
The May 10 University of Chicago Round Table in the university auditorium at 8 15 p m will feature Prof Maynard C Krueger Dr Joseph D Lohman and Prof Herman Finer discussing How We Can Avoid Economic low mood The program is backed by the forum assembly and Student Forensic association with the Round Table noted as a long running non commercial feature.
Gamma Phi Beta won the Sorority league trophy at Penny Carnival Friday night. A Hawaiian themed ring toss raised funds, with Peg Baker as Penny Carnival chairman noting the group contributed $55 to the stadium fund.
Wal ton D. Clarke announces a permanent WKSU plan with the university administration approving a school of speech run station. The radio workshop will supervise programs and a student faculty committee will direct student programs led by Dave Freed with eleven staff roles listed and further openings.
The Newman club hosts the All University Spring Frolic on Friday April 29 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Maple Rest gardens Roots town. Queen Cathie Scullion will be crowned with attendants Marilyn Brennan and Mary Jane Kerwin. Don Karol and his Varsity Five play. tickets are $1.50 per couple. Peggy Baker leads ticket sales in Kent hall.
A university sponsored weekend trip to New York on May 12 includes a Manhattan bus tour, a visit to the Arthur Godfrey show, Chinatown and Wall Street sights, a yacht cruise, Radio City Music Hall, the stock exchange, and Greenwich Village. Prof. G. Harry Wright oversees the series begun in 1941. forty reservations remain at 37.50 dollars, not including meals or subway fare.
Montana State University debaters will meet KSU in two matches Thursday at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The event will be aired on WKSU. The question is Federal Aid to Education. KSU takes affirmative in the afternoon and negative in the evening with Roger Howard and Eugene Berrodin representing KSU. Warren Lashley serves as chairman.
Tomorrow at 4 p.m. is the deadline to return applications for the Lambda Phi cup. The award will be presented at the publications banquet May 13 to the most outstanding senior woman in journalism, with journalism faculty serving as judges.
The KSU A Cappella choir directed by Prof. Caro M. Carapetyan plans a May 7 concert in the university auditorium featuring sacred and secular choral numbers from its Severance Hall program plus several new pieces.
Althea Cerveny of Meridian Idaho and Walter Cerveny from Cleveland Ohio will perform a violin and piano recital Thursday April 28 at 8 15 p m in the auditorium. Althea earned a bachelor of music from the New England Conservatory and studied at Yale School of Music. Walter holds a Western Reserve University bachelor of science in music education and has given recitals in Cleveland Michigan and the East with appearances as violin soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony.
