Nu-K and BG Split Council Races in Student Elections

Nu-K party led the contest for most popular and won 18 of 34 positions while Blue and Gold took 15 and an independent claimed a sophomore Men's union seat. 1,180 votes were cast and the Allocations amendment passed 599 to 118.

WSSF Surpasses $1000 Goal In One Day Drive

Kent State WSSF drive topped $1000 with 1061 total after a one day campaign. First payment of $600 from KSU acknowledged by Wilmer Kitchen executive secretary of the National World Student Service fund. He praised the gifts as relief for distressed students worldwide and stressed bonds of friendship and world peace.

Marine officer to discuss reserve commissions on campus

Captain E R Miller of the U S Marine Corps will visit on April 30 to interview interested students in the Platoon Leaders class. The program offers Marine training and a commission without interrupting college work for eligible college men.

Kent to host new Air Force ROTC unit at KSU

Kent State University will join four Ohio universities in receiving an Air Force ROTC unit. The Air Force will supply instructors and equipment while KSU provides space for administration and instruction. The board of inspectors will plan installation this spring or early summer with July 1 start for ROTC instruction in one or more of four proposed areas. President Bowman supports multiple units for flexibility. Other bases are Bowling Green State University Western Reserve University and Case Institute of Technology.

50 Grad Dies At Ft. Benning

Second Lt. Franklin E. Kelley 27 a KSU graduate and former ROTC member died suddenly at Fort Benning Georgia. He was found in his quarters by a fellow officer the death was due to a heart attack. Kelley a World War II private and German prisoner was sworn in as a second lieutenant in September 1950. He had returned to Kent to finish his studies and was involved with Alpha Phi Beta. He was home on furlough and to be married in June to Mary Shuey Ravenna a Kent graduate.
