The second annual event selects four Queen Mothers for Stater editions with entries limited to 150 words. Three faculty members will join editors in judging. The No. 1 mother will be named May 9 and honored May 11 by States Staff Member Bob Blumer with a gift.
The budgeting committee approved a $21 829 spring quarter fund allocation for student activities and sent it to the Student Council for Monday afternoon approval. To cover a $734 gap the group used $300 from the NTFC fund, forcing four cuts including $241 from varsity athletics and $65 from intramurals, plus voluntary reductions of $378 from the band and $50 from the choir.
The University Theater in the KSU auditorium opened The Late George Apley to a satisfied audience. Jim Bullock stars as George Apley with a strong cast, including Helen Mitrovka and Dolores Clark, in a period-piece satire of Boston Brahmins set against a finely crafted replica Broadway stage.
Interfraternity Council heard an explanation of the Phi Gamma Theta group by George Hoy, who plans to petition for a local fraternity charter at the next meeting on Apr 30. The request to become Kent's eighth fraternity was referred to a sub committee by the Sorority Fraternity Policy committee. An investigation committee led by Betty Hoy, Roy Apple and Bob Hoyt will report next week.
Dewey F. Barich head of industrial arts will address the American and Ohio Industrial Arts association meeting in Columbus this afternoon on county program organization. Also present are University professors Elbert W. Tischendorf Delmar W. Olson and Aurileen J. Belanger.
Windham officials will keep bus fares unchanged until the transit system posts a profit and builds a reserve to cover potential emergencies. The move aims to ensure financial stability before reducing fares.
The Kent State University a cappella choir schedules two programs in Youngstown and one in Warren on Sunday May 4 directed by Caro M Carapetyan. The 80 member group performs an Alleluia and religious numbers on a 2:30 pm WFMJ radio broadcast from Youngstown.
Earl McCabe of Earl's Diner seeks the missing negatives of four photos that hung in his eatery before it burned on Easter Sunday. Courier Tribune photographer Dick Birkner has two of the negatives and will provide prints for the hamburger man.
Chi Pi pledges will be tapped and a new constitution adopted at a Fourth Estate meeting of the journalism student body. The event is set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the training school auditorium.
Washington State college debaters Norman Bertellotti and Eugene Berrodin will face Kent State University at a 3 p.m. exhibition in Pullman. The Pacific Northwest champions travel during a layover en route to West Point New York for a cadet debate. Kent State will argue for direct labor shares in industry.
Final district scholarship tests will be held on the campus Saturday May 3. A total of 600 students from multiple schools will take high school subject tests with Dr A W Sewart leading the planning alongside Drs Chap man Harshbarger Cunningham and Ballard Brady Hercick. Colleges active include University of Akron Baldwin Wallace Hiram Mt Union and Wooster colleges.
Editor Kenneth Goldstein announced the New Duchess issue will be distributed on Tuesday April 29. The announcement confirms the upcoming release and identifies the editor coordinating the distribution.
