The annual scholarship day assembly at the university is set for May 28 at 10 am. Dr. A. W. Stewart will speak on student scholarship. Engleman awards for outstanding education student and creative writing will be presented by President George A. Bowman.
A summer school feature offers a geography field course for 18 students under Dr Reual B Frost of Oberlin College. The trip covers 14 North American regions by station wagon with study, interviews, and visits focusing on forests mines dairy farms ranching and mountain life plus agriculture including cotton wheat and tobacco. Credit ranges from three to six semester hours.
Two War Department representatives will address veterans at a Friday 11 a.m. assembly in the university auditorium. Kansas State University, chosen for its high veteran enrollment, hosts the officer procurement program.
The quarterly open meeting in the auditorium at 2 p.m. will seat new SGA officers led by Tom Davey as president. Incoming officers include Bob Duncan as vice president Jean Goncher as treasurer Tillie Davis as secretary and two holdovers Virginia Black Phyllis Ferguson. Senior council members Clancy Strader Bob White Isla Schnauffer Anne Demiter. Juniors Phyllis Robbins Roy Newsome Kathleen Long Bob Wentz and sophomores Bill Shuttleworth John Gressard Phil Dempsey Joan Neff will also be seated.
Four KSU faculty members and two students will present at the Ohio Academy of Science meeting at Marietta College May 1-3. Biologia department members Dr. Herrick and Dr. Dexter will discuss topics on lobster cultivation and follicle growth, Dean Manchester will preside mathematics, and Hamilton area topics include ecological observations by William Crittenden and historical geography by Lois Pratt. Herrick and Dexter will join council as membership committee men and become vice presidents for plant sciences and zoology for 1947-48.
All seniors attend a meeting this afternoon at 4 in 214K for important June graduate announcements. Senior week activities and the class gift will be decided.
Windham transportation eyes fare reductions after reporting a small profit for the first time since service began in 1946. Don Gray, acting bus manager and junior business administration student, says profits may shrink if bills and repair costs rise. Veterans under VA care used the service, four buses once in debt due to extensive repairs, initial manager Edward Rehanek handed to Gray last winter.
Dr. W G Mienke will lead 23 KSU International Relations Club members to the Tri State conference at Hiram College. Topics include United Nations Problems Peace Settlements and U S Policy with Isabel Lee and Angeline Scources presenting on China and Palestine. Myron Pearson chairs Esther Purdy presides over the local IRC chapter.
The Start Vet Group, linked to the American Veterans Committee, plans a KSU chapter. An organizational meeting is set for today at 7 30 p.m. in 317 McGilvrey, announced by Bob Cook of the Washington DC chapter and acting Kent group chairman.
Kent State University students in flight courses plan to form a flying club affiliated with the National Inter collegiate Flying clubs. Aeronautics Director Andrew Paton announced the reorganization of NIFC which held conventions and tours before 1942. Joan Lyon will represent the university at the first post war convention in Detroit next month.
Chardon hosts the first stop of a traveling clinic for speech and hearing therapy directed by Prof. John R. Montgomery. Fifty school children will be examined by Montgomery, his assistant Mrs. Eleanor Gray, and four student technicians referred by nurses and teachers.
Jack Woods' band tentatively set for Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. at Wills gym for a social dancing session. Admission is 15 cents per person plus a student activity card.
