Eighteen Nominated for University May Queen 1943

Eighteen University women were chosen as candidates for the 1943 May queen title to be announced at Campus Night on May 8. Petitions are due April 23 in the dean of women's office. Sorority groups back the candidates and two judges from Akron and Cleveland will assist in the selection. The queen and attendants will process from the atrium to a throne between Rockwell Library and Kent Hall, with bleachers for spectators.

Five Ohio fire chiefs gathered at the university yesterday and today for a conference with Dr Her schel Nisonger from the office of civilian defense to plan a teacher training program on fire fighting.

Eleven More Sign To Donate Blood Drive

Eleven more students signed up yesterday at the university dispensary to donate blood in the American Red Cross drive for plasma. The donor unit will be at the Methodist church on April 30 from 11 30 to 5 p m. Minors need parental written consent to sign up.

University Easter assembly today at 9 a.m. features Dr. King as guest speaker, introduced by Rev. Edward Willcox. Blue Key To Sponsor Penny Drive Carnival

Blue Key, the men's national service honorary, will sponsor a Penny Drive Carnival tentatively set for Saturday May 15. Campus groups are invited to provide attractions and proceeds will go to the Penny Drive. Al Van Auker was elected secretary, and a banquet is planned for 10 30 EWT Thursday April 29 with a spaghetti dinner as the feature.

Mayo To Present Lecture Tomorrow

Leonard Mayo dean of the school of applied social science at Western Reserve University will lecture and screen films on social service opportunities in room 317 McGilvrey hall at 1 PM tomorrow. Attendance will excuse students from conflicting classes, reflecting wartime demand for trained social service professionals.

Good Friday Classes Remain on Regular Schedule

The office of President K C Leebrick announced that Good Friday will not excuse classes. The regular schedule continues and classes resume Monday morning at 7 o clock (8 EWT) as usual.

George Bush, president, says the Freshman class will meet tomorrow at 3 p m in room 219 Kent hall. Discussion will cover future freshman plans and a party to be held sometime this quarter.

Buckeye Tree to Be Dedicated on Campus

Arbor Day event at the University postponed to Thursday at 4:15 p m on the east bank. A buckeye tree will be dedicated for 15 former students who died in World War II with remarks by Dean Raymond E Manchester and H S Wagner. The ceremony features the aircrew band Roy D Metcalf and speakers Wesley Hollister Pollyanna Poznika and Dr K C Leebrick. A bronze plaque listing Kent men lost will be placed under the tree.

Musicians To Give Recital Saturday

Aircrewmen and University students will attend a music department recital on Saturday April 24 at 8 30 p m in the University auditorium. Featured are Anna Yurkin Lupkiewicz mezzo soprano Joseph Lupkiewicz bass baritone visiting professor Frederick H Denker and Harold Miles. Mr and Mrs Lupkiewicz will sing duets and solos Denker and Miles will perform two piano numbers on two pianos.
