William Vogt spoke on conservation and survival last night, criticizing Americans for assuming steady food supplies and wasting natural resources. He noted his work with the Pan American Union, author of Road to Survival, and his travels promoting conservation.
Veterans who do not want the 15 day leave at quarter end must visit the coordinator of veterans affairs to cancel it. Proper forms must be filed by May 1. Cancelling the leave allows the time to count toward additional eligibility.
Athletes will be feted tonight at the annual Varsity Ball in Wills gym from 9 p.m. to 12. The Varsity King will be elected by attendees and a trophy awarded at intermission. Candidates include James Coll Dale Haverstock Bob Pease and Loreto George with other athletes highlighted from several teams. Chaperones and organizers provide details for attendees and contest rules.
The 1950 Student Directory is for sale from yesterday through Friday April 21 at the Booster booth the union or Blue Key members. It lists student names data and addresses plus phone numbers of campus organizations. Price is 75 cents and the book stays valid until winter quarter 1951 when a new edition arrives.
A special luncheon rate of 1.50 is offered to university students for the second annual Industrial Relations conference held here tomorrow. At 10 a.m. Dr. Warren S. Thompson, head of the Scripps Foundation for Population Problems, discusses aging. Dr. Dale Yoder speaks on old age security and Dr. Edison L. Bowers analyzes negotiating industrial pensions in an afternoon panel with Harry Becker of UAW CIO and William G. Caples of Inland Steel.
Tom Mc Manus and Charles Goetsinger of KSU take on Akron University’s team Sunday April 16 at 3 in the Akron student union. Event sponsored by the Akron University YWCA.
Kent State will host a five state university workshop to improve teacher education in Ohio. Participants include Kent State Ohio State Ohio U Bowling Green and Miami along with state and national organizations AFL and CSO. The aim is to review the 1940 workshop and prepare new proposals across five focus areas. Dr Roy Wenger of Kent State chairs the planning committee with members from Ohio State Bowling Green Ohio U and Miami.
The Most Popular election results will be announced at the Popularity Ball on April 21 with trophies for winners. Andy Imperial's orchestra will lead a 10 PM to 1 AM dance. Candidates include Marilyn Jones Gretchen Rader for Most Popular Woman and Jim McGarry Bob Hampton for Most Popular Man. Tickets go on sale starting Monday.
Science Day will be held all day tomorrow with about 25 northeastern Ohio schools expected to participate. The Ohio Junior Academy of Science sponsors the event, and high school students with superior ratings advance to a state meet. Projects are judged by scope and exhibited under teacher supervision. Dr. Leslie J. Todd will demonstrate chemical magic in the program.
