Today is the all university election day with ballots to be counted Thursday April 18 and winners announced Friday morning April 19. Students have been filing into voting rooms and poll closing at 4 p m. Student council bans campaigning near voting rooms restricting solicitation to atrium areas.
Final plans are in place for a Thursday tour of Willys-Overland and Owens Illinois Glass in Toledo by university commerce students. The visit highlights two leading industrial plants and will be arranged at a Commerce club meeting in 204M at 4 o’clock.
Charlie the janitor misplaced his keys on the Science Hall second floor. Finder is asked to return them to the Kent Stater office.
A reporter recounts the long road from Civilian Pilot Training to a private pilot certificate. Russell Kenyon and the author describe grueling lessons 35 flight hours and a nerve jangling exam with CAA inspectors. The piece ends with a dramatic solo takeoff and near crash landing as a tester’s judgment looms.
Complaints about attaching signs and posters to walls woodwork and other surfaces in university buildings prompt a warning from D R Hinman university store room clerk. Only approved bulletin boards may display material and violations will be investigated by the president and supervisor of construction.
A strong turnout greeted the band drum majors and majorettes with opportunities for experienced twirlers. Practice lessons run Tuesdays at 5 p.m. in 30 AM with Norman Uhl Bob Deal John Busch Jean Chapman Margery Long Janice Powell and Alice Carr listed as participating.
Last evening's Summit Hall Pop Night ends a long tradition. AO sorority receives a 14 inch silver cup for selling the most tickets. The event, dating to 1916, was billed as the final Off Campus Women’s Club program with 1000 in attendance. Betty Fairfax and Alice Harney starred in Rebecca of the Minuet, with Florence Wilson and Negro girl dancers drawing cheers. Kappa Sigma Chi won second prize with Willie Mural and Joe Sarmir performing Sweet Sue pantomime. Judges were Dr Grace Sherrer Prof William Taylor and Hal Lerner.
Drake Relays queen candidates with blue eyes have a 6-1 edge based on six year patterns. Among six past queens only one had brown eyes, and two blondes have reigned. Queens come from Northwestern Butler and Missouri with majors ranging from psychiatry to music and several Phi Beta Kappa members among the last three.
Officers of Kappa Delta Chi honorary fraternity were elected at the Captain Brady meeting. Jack Gray became president with Aileen Milligan as vice president Louise Clark secretary and treasurer and Chester Randles historian. Nine pledges were initiated into the active chapter: Reed Conrad William Pliskin John Yesso Reita Hamilton Ira Crile Phyllis Martin Louise Clark and Jean Harmony.
Lutheran students and friends plan an 7:30 gathering in 201M, announced by Elizabeth Renz, group chairman.
Cliff Bainum from Northwestern University will conduct the Ohion Intercollegiate Band at Baldwin Wallace College April 12 and 13. Judges will select players from colleges across Ohio including Kent State. Kent attendees include John Salomone John Busch Paul Flod Preston Springer Eugene Tocus Jack Booth George Stone William Thompson William Law Don Hawley Lenard Silverstein and Jeanette Irwin. A 6 p.m. Saturday banquet will follow the tryouts. The concert is open to the public.
