Eleven entrants in white gowns await the May Queen crown as campus judges weigh their looks and poise. The panel doles out scrutiny then, amid nerves and ceremony, the hopefuls disperse home to dream of a Queen for a Night later this month.
Tonight at 7 p m in the university auditorium tryouts are held for the annual Pop Night program due to the large entrant pool. Seventeen hopefuls from ten Greek organizations and seven independent groups compete, with a 14 inch silver cup prize for the top ticket seller and a two year ownership for the winner.
The Student Senate convenes at 7:30 tonight in 201M where Senator Bob Cook says several bills will be introduced and then undergo first and second readings before committee referrals and floor votes. Meetings are weekly Tuesdays with invitations extended to Kent clubs for demonstrations.
Professor William Taylor received honors from the Clarenette staff of the Clarendon school newspaper in Canton after the paper won a national award from the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association. Taylor will speak on the ABCs of journalism in Canton on April 12 at the Elementary Journalism meeting with northeastern Ohio sponsors.
About 25 students from Dr. O H Williams economic classes toured Cleveland Housing estates Cedar Central apartments Outhwaite homes and Lakeview terrace. Projects replace slums with landscaped grounds playgrounds stores garages and tenant community facilities. Outhwaite homes are a Negro center though Negroids have been admitted to the other two. The group also visited the Federal Reserve bank and WTAM studios.
Three campus political machines run into a second year as they prepare for a three day all university election on Thursday. Blue and Gold and Independents list rival tickets with Kentonian also fielding candidates. Ballot order will be doubled and site arrangements discussed including the little gym.
Kent State university will send ten student council members to the National Student Federation Alliance convention at McMurray College in Jacksonville New Jersey from April 12 to 14. Bob Seese, newly elected student council president, will speak at the event. The meeting also set campus night for May 20.
Senior dues are $1.50 for the year with receipts required for prom entry on May 4. AGnes Young and Don Miller handle payments, with a dues committee contacting each senior. Graduates in June pay $1.00 to attend the prom.
The problems of peace forum with Pres. Leebrick is postponed to Thursday at 7 30 PM in the training school auditorium due to the illness of Dr Karl C Leebrick. The topic What Kind of Peace Can Europe Make will be discussed with town hall speakers Maurice Hinds and John Gunther.
This afternoon the Radio workshop stages a one act play titled A Hundred and Two Stories High at WADC Akron. Written by Jim Hook the piece follows a middle aged man who moors a dirigible atop the Empire State Building. Cast includes Blair Sheers Russell Lengs June Davidson Jane Doak Russell Hill Mary Ellen Hayes and Jack Irish.
