A spectacular fire at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City burned a warehouse to ashes and damaged another structure. Flames rose about 150 feet, the blaze breaking out late this afternoon and attracting emergency crews.
In San Francisco on June 12, Charles Krauth, 25, formerly of Denver, drowned while trying to save his sister Rosanne, 18, who was saved by life guards. Their Denver parents faced the tragedy as rescue efforts failed to revive Charles.
In St Louis on the MacArthur bridge a ten year old boy named Harry Charleville became stuck in a 10 by 14 inch opening over the Mississippi. Firemen labored for 30 minutes to extricate him. They refused a saw and instead removed clothing and soap to ease the rescue before pulling him free.
Boonville Missouri June 12 454 boys registered for the annual Missouri Boys State marking the largest opening day attendance in the event's history. Sponsored by the American Legion, the youths will study democratic government by forming and operating local and state governments during their weeklong stay.
Harry Frankel known as Singin Sam on radio for nearly two decades died of a heart attack at his Ricamonp home at 60. A veteran of the Keith Orpheum circuit, he joined WLW Cincinnati in 1929 and later performed with Al G Fields Minstrels before retiring last year. He is survived by wife Helen Smiles Frankel who also had vaudeville fame, notably during World War I.
