President Truman vetoed for the second time a bill to shield ICC approved railroad rate pacts from anti trust laws. The measure would let railroads jointly set rates if sanctioned by the ICC, despite opposition from the Justice department. The House passed it 272 to 53 and the Senate by voice vote.
President Truman signed a bill on his western trip to create permanent roles for women in the armed forces. The WACs will reach 1,000 officers and 17,500 enlisted, while the WAVES and Marines will have 1,000 officers and 10,000 enlisted each.

United States Far East air forces admitted a Tuesday bombing near the Korea coast may have involved FEAF aircraft. Fourteen Koreans died and ten were wounded as nine 4 engine planes reportedly attacked eleven fishing boats at sea. An investigation is underway to establish aircraft involvement.
