Rains Bring Big Seasonal Boost Across County

Over the past week rains covered nearly every part of the county with as much as ten inches in some areas. The total weekly rainfall reached about two and a half inches in many parts, boosting soil moisture for farmers. Cedar Creek rose about five feet and Johnson Fork to around fifteen feet, halting travel on the Kerrville road briefly while Mason and Sonora mail routes remained passable Friday and resumed Saturday. The wet spell follows earlier rains and should delay a hard freeze, aiding late reed storage, though a frost hit Sunday night.
