Good Rains Bring Relief To Kimble Ranges And Crops
Rains in the month brought relief to the Kimble County area after six dry months. The seven month rainfall record shows totals with scattered inches including a recent 3.70 inches for the month, aiding farmers and ranchers in the Hill Country. Local residents also report social and service activity with moves to Junction and comments on a district American Legion meeting in Brownwood.

Death Claims W. O. Brown At Fredericksburg
W. O. Brown 83 well known Kimble County ranchman died in a Fredericksburg hospital May 18 after a several day illness. Funeral services were held the next day conducted by Rev. Paul S. Vandyke with interment on the ranch. Active pallbearers and a community choir led by C. J. Whitewood performed at the home and grave. Born July 6, 1859 in DeWitt County Texas, he farmed ranching in Kimble County for about 50 years.

Homemaking Girls Start Summer Projects May 31
The Homemaking Department at the High School offers a five week summer project course for girls to earn high school credit through activities on clothing renovation home furnishing Red Cross USO scrapbooks and food preservation. Five weekly sessions run 9 12 and 1 3 four days a week from May 31 to July 1 with approximately 25 students enrolled. Also notes on family visits and a hospital case of George France.

Finance Campaign For Boy Scouts To Begin June 5th
The Concho Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America plans its annual finance drive for June 5 to avoid clashing with the nationwide War Chest Campaign. The Council covers 25.5 counties in West and Southwest Texas with over 825 volunteers and 125 Den Mothers assisting a growing program. The council ended last year with 3467 boys and aims to add 365 more, as new troops form across the region.

Ensign Lena House of the N N C R reported to duty in the Naval Hospital in San Diego on April 6 1942 after over a year of training. She has just sailed for duty at a Pacific base and landed safely. A registered nurse she trained in Temple Texas and previously supervised a hospital at Quanah Texas before volunteering.

Mrs. Selma Guyton Dies in Junction After Ill Health
Mrs. Selma Hensley Guyton wife of Dr. John V. Guyton died at her Junction home early Sunday May 23 after a long illness. She was born May 25 1906 at London and was a registered nurse. Funeral held in Community Hall London with Rev. Lewis L. Wilkins officiating. interment in London cemetery. Survivors include her husband and many relatives.
