Visit Brings Clayton McKay Home From Camp Polk
Clayton McKay arrived Saturday from Camp Polk Louisiana to visit his parents Mr and Mrs R E McKay. He suffers a serious left arm injury from nine months ago and will require time to heal. Meanwhile John C Harrell to his parents reported recovering from a right arm injury after serving in major Pacific battles. He was aboard the North Hampton when it sunk December 1 1942 and enlisted in the Navy April 7 1942.

Used Inner Tubes Free From Rationing Says OPA
The OPA announces that used inner tubes for passenger cars and trucks can be purchased without a ration certificate. About 765,000 used car tubes and 225,000 used truck tubes sit idle in dealers stocks, and all rationing on used tubes has been removed to conserve new-tube supply.
Victory Garden Notes Meeting on Cucurbus and Vine Crops
The Victory Garden meeting will be held in the Vocational Agriculture room Thursday at 8 30 pm. The topic covers Cucurbus and other vine crops with focus on diseases and insect pests from a problem view point. An entire review will address summer problems for summer vegetables.

Fisherman Exhibits Big Bass From North Llano River
Henry Bossman, a skilled fisher, displayed a string of bass on Saturday. The largest weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces, and Bossman says it would have reached six pounds had it not been out of water. The catch came from the North Llano river near Junction.

Nelson Enlists in U S Service at Dodd Field
Roy A. Nelson son of Mrs Sal lie Nelson enlisted in the U S Service at Dodd Field San Antonio on November 9 1942. He is assigned to the 836th Navigation Training Squadron RAFNS at Hondo Texas where he has been promoted to Corporal in the engineering corps. His wife accompanies him in Hondo and he briefly left ranch duties to attend to urgent ranch and farm tasks before returning to Hondo to resume duties.

Plans Complete For Boy Scout Finance Campaign
A campaign to raise funds for next year’s Boy Scout work is planned for Saturday June 5. A breakfast at 7 30 A M at the Methodist Annex kicks off a day of canvassing by three five man teams ending at Hawkins Drug Store. Lapel buttons will be given to contributors and scouts will display a sample camp on the courthouse lawn.

Roosevelt School Holds Annual Picnic at May 28
Roosevelt School held its annual barbecue at Roosevelt last Friday, May 28, with J A Parker as official chef and Burl Fisher assisting. Estimates vary on attendance from about 300 to 500, as meat, bread, pickles, onions, salads, cake and coffee were served to a happy crowd. Parker and Fisher cooked the goats in traditional fashion, with Parker praised as a past master and Fisher as an expert. Herbert Simon and Asa Marr helped with cutting.

May rainfall in Hill Country exceeds 14 year average
In May 1943 the Hill Country recorded total rainfall of 4.43 inches over eight days, above the 14 year average. Junction reported the amount, with more rain than any May since September 1941, and only April 1942 had a higher monthly total in the past 14 years.

Brooks I Dickey to Preach at Junction Church Sunday
Rev Dr Brooks I Dickey superintendent of Home Missions in the Presbytery of Western Texas will fill the pulpit at Junction Presbyterian Church Sunday morning June 6 and preach at Roosevelt Sunday evening. He is well known in the county for prior pulpits in area churches.

Roy C Horton Dies After Yearlong Illness At 41
Roy C Horton longtime State Highway Department foreman died at his Junction home after a lengthy illness. He was born in 1902 in Terrell and moved to San Angelo in 1923. Funeral services were held in San Angelo with pallbearers from Junction, Barnhart, and nearby towns. He leaves Rosa Trumble Horton his wife two sons Roy Jr and Jimmie and siblings and relatives.
