It notes chemists predicting quick modern conflicts, a poet’s autumnal sigh, the mail carrier’s monthly visit, sailfish catching by wind, and criticism of gasoline boats hurting fish with oil.
The W M S of Junction Baptist Church invites everyone to a dime social at the church Friday at 3:00 PM in support of Buckner Orphans in Dallas Texas. J N Hodges plans to return to the store after several days absence due to a minor illness.
County Interscholastic League events drew many eager boys and girls from member schools for literary and athletic contests. A record number entered, ribbons ran out, and winners included Junction and London pupils in debates, declamations, storytelling, and tea cup contests across high school and rural divisions.
Alton Mason and George Cavaness are the only retiring city council members who allowed their names on the ballot for the city officers election next Tuesday. Mayor Emil A. Loeftler and councilmen Longren, Williams, and Hubert did not seek re election. The new ticket lists H. E. Wright as mayor and Alton Mason, Geo Cavaness, Roy Skages, Chas Ramsey, and Cleve Stephen as councilmen. A. G. Farmer, C. W. Atchison and Chris Schraub will oversee the election on April 4 under the Terrell law.
D. T. Whittle sustained a severe fracture of the left leg just above the knee after being kicked by a colt while caring for stock. He was taken to Standifer Hospital, where the leg was set and he rests as well as can be expected.
O Z Jones takes the lead this season for the biggest catch with a 40 pound yellow catfish caught Sunday night on the Llano. He is assisted by Jarvis Jordan and Roy Nelson. Jones declines to reveal his method and others seek to beat his record.
City improvement project uses R F C funds to build an ornamental rock wall on the north side of Junction Cemetery. Harry Northcutt leads the work, with crest heights of 4 1/2 feet and troughs of 3 1/2 feet. Two decorative pillars flank the entrance gate as a new wire fence goes up on the west side. The improvements aim to add dignity and beauty to the cemetery.
A new street linking Highway 29 with College Avenue at the town's west end is being opened this week. Funds from R F C cover labor payroll as crews clear a 60 foot right of way from Junction Cemetery to town, providing a shorter route into the center. Continued on last page.
Lewis Jetton and George Cavaness erect a new Kimble County stone garage on Main Street west of Fred and Toby’s service station. Built by Bb. O. Newby and E. W. Boekhaus, the venture uses native stone with some from Mason County. Opening planned around April 15 for servicing all car makes with parts line.
The 1933 Junction school election will occur Saturday April 2. Two trustees will be chosen to replace Chris Schraub and Lester Hodges who will not seek re election. Schraub is board president and Hodges secretary. Both have served many years and are willing to step aside to let others serve. Continued on last page.
Official schedule notes San Sabe and Mason meet three times Junction and Mason face seven times. All other clubs play each other five times. Liane and Sen Saba contests set for seven meetings.
Four new directors and officers take the helm at Junction Cattle Loan Company with Walter G. Loeffler arriving from Dallas to serve as manager and secretary treasurer. C. T. Holekamp is president with Max O. Riley as assistant secretary treasurer and Wm. R. McKee and A. L. Mudge as vice presidents. Directors include S. S. Bunday R. H. Spiller George R. Pepper and Coke R. Stevenson. The firm plans wool and mohair sales in 1933 inviting producer participation and promising coordinated storage and marketing to boost profits.
An evening of fun and entertainment is planned at the High School Auditorium Friday at 8:00 for a benefit program to help defray expenses of the one act play contestants heading to Ballinger for the district contest. Admission is 10 and 15 cents, offering over an hour of entertainment while aiding worthy students.
