Texas Leads In Sheep Raising In The Lone Star State
Texas has long led in sheep numbers and now produces wool rivaling other states. High prices for Texas fleece attract big mills, with improvements in breeding from Vermont Utah and Ohio helping raise Merino Delane Rambouillet crosses. Rams are traded seasonally, lambing runs from March to May, and shearing occurs in spring and fall with double shear in milder San Angelo regions.
