The San Antonio girl Jeanette English has long suffered due to a grass blade in her lung. After funds from San Antonio citizens were raised, she was sent to a St. Louis hospital for an operation. The San Antonio Light promoted the subscription drive and many papers printed her picture.
Washington March 9 The Coolidge cabinet shows five new members Kellogg Warren Wilbur Jardine and Work with Stone replaced by Warren due to his move to the Supreme Court The shifts reflect Tea Pot Dome and other pressures and the Midwest supplying most new posts Kellogg from Minnesota Jardine from Kansas Warren from Michigan Work from Colorado New posts include Kellogg State Wilbur Navy Jardine Agriculture Warren Attorney General and Work Interior All nominees confirmed except Warren whose appointment failed Senate confirmation awaits next move
Kimble County Chamber of Commerce members discussed a county fair at a September date the first Thursday and Friday, with a five member committee to run it. Plans include a secretary, advertising, and hotel funding via Junction Hotel Co. stock. a meeting was set for next Monday at the Court House.
A. F. Moursand, state highway engineer for Division 7 and director of maintenance for twenty West Texas counties, resigns. J. R. Eeds arrives from Austin to take over, after acting as highway engineer for the division for the past month. The resignation followed a telegram from Eastland official Joe Burkett announcing changes in maintenance leadership.
Stoker and Wynn arrive in San Angelo to take over duties in the northern area and Eldorado for the southern half, replacing Mourland and Edwards after abrupt resignations. The division covers 1,000 miles of state roads across Midland Martin Howard Nolen Coke Runnels Sterling Glasscock Irion Tom Green Reagan Upton Concho McCulloch Menard Kimble Sutton Crockett Mitchell and Schleicher counties. Ed wards notes the move may hinder maintenance by placing untried personnel.
The Junction area unveils a wave of new construction including a large Junction Hardware Co. garage and drive-in, Powell Filling Station, and new residences for W. M. Taylor Ada Dockery E. O. Longren Shown are plans for a 24x60 modern concrete market building for Frank Bissett and a 30x90 store addition for Phillip Joseph. A new 24x60 fireproof Junction Eagle home base is planned. Keen hotel prospects and other improvements promise a thriving town. Weekend visitors from Kerrville enjoyed Cedar Creek dining with G H Delano at Price's Camp.
Cedar Hill Girls' Club began their first sewing lesson last Friday with much interest. Members report successful cooking lessons as well. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Stevenson, Mrs. Gardner Franks, and Mrs. Forest Welden visited relatives in San Antonio and Austin last week.
Postmaster Tracy reports rate changes taking effect April 15. Post cards need 2 cents postage. parcel post with special handling will be 25 cents plus a 2 cent service charge. Parcels over eight ounces use parcel post rates. third class rises to 1.14 cents per ounce. Small papers like the Eagle adjust to 2 cents or less for publishers. Registration fees rise to 15 cents, money orders see mixed changes, and stamp issuances point to a 14 cent rate due to the new law.
A notice urges all residents to attend Monday night at the Court House for a friendly discussion of town and county needs. Farmers and ranchmen are especially invited. townsfolk should come and bring others. Watch your paper date.
