The Simmons University Choral Club, 26 singers with 19 boys and 16 girls, will give a public program at the high school auditorium on Saturday evening March 25. Director Wm James Work notes a strong lineup with a violinist, a reader, and several soloists. This marks their seventh west Texas tour with high expectations. A sacred program will follow at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning March 26, featuring chorus singing and boys and girls quartets, including a famous male quartet renowned across Texas and Oklahoma.
Mason county youth's calf wins open grand championship at San Angelo Fort Worth show. West Texas clubs take 29 of 37 club division placements. Mason county, McCulloch, Menard and Sutton counties place best fifteen calves. Jordan’s model calf tops champion short horn and Angus steer for top honors.
Price Gann, brother of Mrs. Sam Woodward and Mrs. H. G. Hubert, drowned Tuesday night when his fishing boat capsized on the Colorado River. Two companions swam to safety as he chose to swim back for the boat and was not seen alive again. Mrs. Hubert and Mrs. Woodward left Wednesday for the ranch home. funerals and mourning follow for the stricken family.
Residents are invited to Roose velt Schoolhouse next Sunday night at 7 30 for a church service with Rev. G W Crofoot preaching.
Luke Hagood returned Wednesday from Bronte where he had been employed for some time.
Mr and Mrs Jim Smith of Menard were guests of Mr and Mrs Chris Schraub last week, sharing time at a local home. The note records a social visit between two local families.
Citizens along the Llano river urge action against turtles they blame for destroying fish eggs in Kimble county streams. The call encourages anglers and wardens to organize, discuss methods, and trap turtles to protect salmon and other fish as the Eagle offers to publish notices.
Struck by a strong Friday quake, Southern California towns including Long Beach suffer 130 dead and thousands injured. Damages cited between 45 and 75 million dollars as relief through Red Cross and health measures work to calm fear and care for the sick and homeless.
Lem Robinson died at his home in west Junction late Thursday night March 10 after a five to six year illness. He was buried in Junction Cemetery Friday afternoon with Rev. G. W. Rich and Rev. W. S. Highsmith presiding. Born October 19 1876 in Little Rock Arkansas he spent most of his life in Texas. He married Hallie L. Glenn February 4 1902 in Houston and is survived by his wife a daughter Ellene and three sisters Minnie Barber Tannie Pierce and Isse Rogers. A Spanish-American War veteran S S Bundy was in from his ranch today on business.
At a Tuesday night meeting the Junction Schools board reelected all teachers for the next term with about a 10 percent salary cut. Superintendent George H. Mitchell and Earl Bowers were already reelected last month. The board urges tax payers to support education, noting financial difficulties and the need for timely school tax payments. Names listed include Mitchell, Bowers, Bethel, Felps, Bennett, Lowry, Jackson, Wallace, Blackburn, Simon, Dickey, Newby, Owens, Durst, Horton, and others.
Four women who were schoolgirls in Junction 45 years ago gathered at the Morris Nethery home last week. Mrs. J A Heyman, Mrs. John Braley, Mrs. Alec Hamer, and Mrs. Emma Eason Baze recalled the long years since their Junction days.
Mrs. R. B. Curry and two children of San Antonio are guests of their mother, Mrs. W. W. Buck.
West Junction resident Sen F. Davis died at 1 30 pm after a long illness. Born July 23 1868 in Coryell county he lived most of his life in Kimble county. He is survived by his widow five brothers and five sisters. He was a Church of Christ member and a lover of athletics. Burial was in Junction Cemetery with services by Elder W T Blackmon.
Banking Commissioner wires local officials to open for normal operation on March 15, unrestricted. The State Bank of Junction was among first to resume, with patrons and officers praising solid finances and safe banking. Optimism rises as Mohair and wool prices look favorable.
District 11 representatives met to finalize Junctions 1933 grid plan with Ozona, Rocksprings, Menard, Eldorado, Sonora games listed. Earl Bowers reported all district schedules finalized as spring training began with a large turnout.
A birthday dinner and family reunion took place last Sunday at the N. H. Skaggs home. Dr L L Skaggs and family from San Antonio Warren Mugford and family from Long Mountain Roy Skaggs and sons from Junction Carl Tibbett and family from Junction were present. Two or three children have March birthdays and the family gathers for dinner with their parents. A Houston daughter was not present. John Hickerson of Tohoka Texas arrived Tuesday to visit his nephew John D. Hickerson and mother.
J. J. McWright and Sherman McWright departed today heading for San Saba to handle business interests.
