San Antonio Men Tour West for Road Condition Facts

Messrs. Furlong and Birdsong of San Antonio rode to El Paso and back to inspect road conditions along the Bankhead Highway and Old Spanish Trail. They report O S T route is fair and passable with better than 25 mph on the 90 mile stretch between Junction and Ozona, countering travel advisories. They aim to inform west bound tourists through the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Highway and Travel Dept.

Two Water Gauges To Be Constructed

The State Board of Water Engineers with the United States Geological Survey plan two automatic water gauges near Junction. One will be on the North Llano about four miles above town and the other on the main Llano about three miles below town near the present gauge. The Main Llano gauge will be costly due to concrete work. A Fredericksburg Brady road route is described as similar in length to a 100 mile extension to Ozona. The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce clarifies it only provides route information for travelers. Their trip with Mr Furlong’s department should boost east west tourism through Junction and aid the El Paso Auto Club with regional road condition data. Furlong notes growing tourist interest in the Llano River country.
