Texas Tax Rate Set At 62 Cents Per Hundred
The State Automatic Tax Board in Austin set a 62 cent rate per 100 valuation, a 15 cent cut from last year and below the constitutional max. The school tax dropped from 35 to 20 cents, while general revenue and Confederate pension taxes were fixed at 35 and 7 cents respectively. The board projects a $12,000,000 general revenue deficit for the year ending August 31, 1936, due to Centennial funding, increased rural school aid, and interest and sinking fund costs on Texas relief bonds totaling $7,707,000 of the shortfall.
