December 13 Set For Cotton Vote

Marion County cotton growers vote Tuesday December 13 on marketing quotas for the 1956 upland cotton crop. If two thirds approve quotas, penalties on excess cotton and full price supports with acreage allotments apply. if more than one third disapprove, no quotas but 50 percent parity supports. All 1955 cotton producers may vote at the Marion County Job Office in Jefferson from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Towring Pines HD Club Met At Nichols Home

The Towring Pines Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday afternoon November 30 at Mrs. R. C. Nichols's home. The gathering opened with a prayer and club song. Miss Sue Cagle demonstrated lamp shade making while members finished tidbit trays and refreshment were served to members and a guest.

Mrs. Loomis Hosts Friday Sewing Club Meeting

Mrs. R A Loomis welcomed members for a December 2 sewing session. After sewing and conversation, the group held a business meeting. Morning Coffee For Bride-Elect Honoring Jo Ann Blain

Mrs. Harper Davis hosted a morning coffee to honor Miss Jo Ann Blain whose marriage to Ray Hengst is slated for this week. Green and white decorations appeared in the reception rooms with white flowers and a chrysanthemum centerpiece. Guests called during the 10 to 11 hour.

Jefferson High Choir Presents Christmas Cantata Dates

The Jefferson High School Choir will present its Christmas Cantata on December 15 at 1 00 PM and December 16 at 730 PM. The program, The Music of Christmas, features soloists Nancy Riley Carl Day Bailey Lynette Harris Mike Shaw and Lou Anne Haggard with a narrator to be chosen. The Junior High Choir also performs a short program of traditional and newer Christmas songs.

Funeral services for Mrs Myrtle Mae Lockett held Saturday

Funeral services were held at Mims Chapel Church for Myrtle Mae Lockett who died December 1 at Terry DeWare Clinic. Officiants were Rev Rufus Zachry and Rev E B Hamilton. ME Class Banquet Set For Dec. 13

The Christmas banquet by the Young Adult Class of the Methodist Church will be on Tuesday December 13 at the American Legion Hut. Lions Club to Sponsor Local Swimming Pool Project

Jefferson Lions take over the long planned pool project budgeting about six thousand dollars for repairs including plastering the pool sides remodeling dressing rooms and installing a new filtering system. The pool will operate daily in summer with possible nightly hours and will be run by hired staff as Lions fundraise through year end.

Jefferson Dominates McLeod as Marshall Edges Bulldogs

Jefferson beat McLeod 51 44 in the boys game on the road led by Tommy Smith with 21 points while Roberts and Ammons added 12 each for McLeod followed by a 37 17 Jefferson win in girls action with Charlene Grubbs scoring 21 and Peggy Cook 7. In the late boys game McLeod won 20 1% and Jefferson and McLeod shared scoring honors. First National To Build New Bank Here

Construction on a drive in ultra modern bank for Jefferson began this week. Charles Hampton, local contractor, moved his crew in Monday morning and expects completion in about six months. The bank lot on Polk Street next to Jack Ford's was formerly a parking area. The building features a decorated drawing room for board meetings and community use, brick and glass with an all glass front, a drive in teller window and a night depository.

Jefferson ISD to vote on 200000 bond for new school

A notice in this issue announces a December 31 tax bond election in Jefferson Independent School District for 200000 in bonds. Of this 125000 funds would build a 12 classroom elementary for colored students serving about 400 at Judea and Gethsemane. 75000 would be reserve for districtwide improvements. Election ordered by trustees on December 5.

Thomas P Jolly Area Evangelist Buried At Mt Zion

The Rev. Thomas Preston Jolly longtime East Texas Louisiana evangelist died Monday at his sister’s home in Jefferson. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Haggard Chapel with burial in Mt Zion Cemetery. Survived by wife J P Jolly Sr son T P Jolly Jr four sisters a brother two grandchildren and an uncle. Former Navy Man Returns Home

Bobby Wilkes arrived home after honorable discharge from the U S Navy on December 2 from San Francisco California. The former Gunners Mate 3/c served four years with 18 months in Alaska and most duties in the South Pacific. His latest mission was a tour in the Arctic aboard the U S S Safeguard. Auction Event At Mims Chapel Promotes New Center
