Christmas Music at First Baptist Church Cantata Sun Night

The First Baptist Choir presents the eight part Christmas cantata Song of the Holy Night by Roger Wilson on Sunday at 6 pm directed by Mrs. Carl Bailey with organist Mrs. Faun Shaw. Soloists include Mike Shaw and Dorothy Bennett. A 6 o clock start aims to accommodate attendees for the later Methodist Church service at 7:30.

Christmas Party for Pups Kindergarten Pupils

Pupils of Mrs Gussye Williams kindergarten enjoyed a Christmas party in the Methodist Sunday School rooms on Tuesday afternoon. A carol program by the children preceded a decorated tree from which gifts were exchanged and distributed by the teacher. Hostesses included Mrs L Scudday Mrs Bob Pierce Mrs Rayford Grubbs and Mrs Bruce Jenkins. Refreshments served to listed students and families.

Corsage Making Demonstration At 4-H Meeting

The 4th Grade 4-H Club met Monday with Mona Coleman leading in Miss Cagle’s absence. A corsage making demonstration was shown. Games included Button Button and Fruit Basket Upset, with Bennie Pollman reporting.

S W B Telephone To Build Lines To Smithland

Southwestern Bell Telephone will add 40 to 50 telephones in the Jefferson area immediately. The project includes Smithland and Carter's Lake Road, with work slated soon at an estimated cost of 20000 dollars. District Manager R Bartlett announced the plan.

Miss Jo Ann Blain Becomes Bride of Ray Hengst

Miss Jo Ann Blain became the bride of Arthur Ray Hengst of Woodlawn in a First Baptist Church ceremony. The Rev. Edwin Johnson solemnized the vows. Parents are Mr and Mrs George Blain and Mr and Mrs Herbert W Hengst. The church was decorated with tall cathedral candles, ivy, jade leaves, Fugii mums, and white gladioli. Organist Mrs Helen McKair and singer Jack Buchanan performed. The bridal party included maid of honor Robin Richey and bridesmaids Lolisa Waddell Sue Liles Mina Field and Martha Lou Blain. The couple’s wedding procession featured the Hengst brothers and various ushers viewing a formal program. Continued on back page.

PTA Contributes 590 to Lions for swimming pool

Jefferson P T A met at the high school auditorium on December 6 at 7 00. Horace Brown Jr presided. A Christmas program was performed by first grades M H Bender and W F Myers. The project committee led by W Terry proposed five ideas, voters chose a $500 donation to the Lions Club for the pool repair. The money came from the Halloween Carnival.

Fnneyable And Profitable Lions Feed At Legion Hall

About 70 Lions and guests attended a Friday night barbecue at the Legion Hall. Bill Shaw's group served, an auction raised 6744 dollars for the swimming pool project, and carols followed. A lightbulb sale added over 155 dollars, with funds directed to the pool. Lions voted against a home lighting contest this year, with Ned Ford noting prize money redirected to the pool project.

Jefferson resident J B Whelan dies after long illness

John Brenan Whelan a 53 year Jefferson resident died Thursday morning December 15 at his home at 4 am after two years of ill health. Funeral tentatively set for Saturday at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception. He served in World War I and belonged to Proctor Meisenheimer Post 804 and the Knights of Columbus. Survived by wife Rosana Seery Whelan of Shreveport, two brothers Robert and D E Whelan, two sisters Angela Whelan and Sister Mary Angela Whelan. Born August 6, 1894 in West Virginia.

Bulldogs Cage Two Wins Over Linden Tigers

The Jefferson Bulldogs defeated the Linden Tigers twice at Linden. The B team won 47-39 led by Kent Oney with 15 points and Cover from Linden with 15. The varsity D team led most of the game to win 61-49 as Phony Harrell scored 24 and Kenneth Hayes 15. Mary Lynn Wirt.

Jefferson Girls Run In Tournament At Elysian Fields

The Jefferson girls competed at Elysian Fields with losses to 87-26 and Union Hill 47-25 and a 34-30 win over Waskom. Mary Lynn Whatley totaled 15, 18, and 21 points across games, while Charlene Grubbs contributed 13 in the Waskom win. Jefferson earned a sportsmanship trophy for the event.

At a candle lit First Baptist Church meeting in Miss Wanda Burn ham’s home, the YWA honored Miss Sue Cagle with a white Bible during a ceremony for her upcoming marriage. Lions Lightbulb Sale Tonight at Jefferson Pool Fundraiser

The Lions Club repeats a lightbulb sale on December 15 to reach those not contacted before and raise funds for the Jefferson swimming pool project. Each bag contains three 100 watt, two 60 watt, and two 40 watt bulbs, priced at 1.80 dollars.

Jodie Bender Receives Masonic Appointment

Jodie Bender returned from Waco where he attended the Masonic Grand Lodge No. 88 and was appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the ith Masonic District. He met Governor J Allan Shivers at a DeMolay ceremony where the Legion of Honor was conferred, with Gov. Shivers also attending the Grand Lodge. The Rev. E. P. Nativity Scene at Baptist Church

Intermediates of the First Baptist Church will stage a Nativity Scene on Thursday night December 22 on the church grounds. The 45 minute to one hour program, under lights, starts about 7 p.m. The Intermediate Choir will provide music, followed by caroling and a reception in the church rooms. the public is invited.

Postmaster McQuinn announced the Post Office will stay open all day on Saturday December 17 and Saturday December 24 because of heavy mailing of cards and packages. The measures aim to handle increased holiday mail volume and ensure service continuity.

Mail volume climbs as post office eyes record season

Postmaster McQuinn said the 1975 pre holiday period will break records as Christmas card and gift-package mail surges. He noted the office already processed 26 000 pieces, with December 1 to 25 last year at 7 060. the rush is just beginning.
