Marion Deer To Buckner s Orphans Home

Bill Belore the state game warden for Marion County received a letter of appreciation from Buckner s Orphans Home for a deer sent from the area The deer was hit and killed by a car Oscar Derrick witnessed the accident and delivered the deer to Belote Others who helped were M K Knight who dressed the meat and R C Nichols who transported it Belote notes the East Texas Wildlife Association request for quail wings and has envelopes for mailing the wings available upon request

Receipts from a Thursday night lightbulb sale by the Lions Club will fund Jefferson Swimming Pool repairs and a new filter system. The package sells for $2 and includes four 60 watt, two 75 watt, and four 100 watt bulbs. volunteers will call on residents to take orders.

Band Director Injured in Thanksgiving Car Crash

Jack Briggs, Jefferson Band Director, was hospitalized with a leg injury after a Marshall crash during the Thanksgiving holidays. He was treated at Kahn Memorial Hospital and released on Tuesday, returning for late afternoon band practice Wednesday.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Kenneth Henderson

Funeral services for ATA Kenneth Dale Henderson were held at First Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Henderson, born June 14, 1934 in Jefferson, died November 23 in a Navy hospital in California after a brief illness. Survivors include his widow Wilma Henderson Imperial Beach California his parents Mr and Mrs J B Henderson a sister Mrs Harold Cox two brothers David and Billy Bun Henderson and numerous relatives. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery with Haggard in charge of arrangements.

Grass Fires Plague Jefferson City for Two Weeks

Numerous grass fires burn across Jefferson over ten to fifteen days with four to six calls daily. Firefighters let small fires burn out while large blazes like Berea last week endangered homes and structures and required extended control. On Tuesday afternoon three calls came within one hour, including a fire at the Housing Authority grounds.
