Donnelly pushes higher school aid with warning of taxes

Governor Paul Donnelly told Missouri lawmakers he supports raising state aid for schools by about 5.6 million dollars annually but warned that continued high spending requires more revenue or sharp cuts. Motorists Fined In Three Day School Recognition Drive

Seventeen motorists were fined during a three day school recognition program at Moreau Heights High. Awards were given to students by Principal C R Claibourne with several named attendees and participants. Fines ranged from five dollars to larger penalties, with outcomes including a peace disturbance sentence and track events noted among the day’s activities.

Johnson Committeewoman Elected in Third Precinct

A letter from Harold B. Remley was read to the Republican city central committee at the Missouri Hotel. It backs the party’s get out the vote plan focused on Parent-Teacher Associations. Mrs Charles Johnson of 208 Dawson St was elected committeewoman for the third precinct of the first ward. The committee authorized a July barbecue plan and discussed a Lincoln Day dinner for February. The next committee meeting was set for Friday June 24. Meanwhile St Louis AFL truck drivers’ strike entered its 18th day with about 4,000 idle and no settlement after five hours of talks with Federal Conciliator Anthony E. Johnson. discussions resume Monday.
