Jasper opens with growing attendance and plans for expansion

Jasper's new school year started last Monday with 214 pupils enrolled, including 72 in high school, about 40 tuition students. Superintendent Moon reports progress and a promising outlook though some fear curriculum changes. Carthage Residents Oppose Home Phone Rent Increase

Three hundred fifty patrons of the Home Telephone Co at Carthage petitioned last Monday to block a proposed rent rise. Residence rates would move from 1.50 to 2.00 monthly and business from 2.00 to 3.00. The effect on company action is unresolved as Carthage courts had enjoined the raise, an appeal follows.

Knell Fair at Carthage Sets Horse Racing Records

The Knell fair at Carthage drew record crowds and broke track records. On Thursday 25,000 attended as Daniel J pacing upset the field with a 2:08 1/4 mile, lowering the track mark. Jasper backed the event with over a thousand paid admissions, while Walnut Russell and Pebbles Lady were top pacing contenders.
