A Democratic rally at the Jasper Opera House is announced for Saturday night October 28. S. W. Bates and other Democratic county candidates will address the audience. A quartette and string band will provide music. Township Committeeman John Marsh says the quartette will not be a nigger quartette. The News is $1.00 a year and worth it.
Lon Garner died in Joplin last week after a two to three day illness. He was a brother of Mary Garner of Dublin and is survived by a widow and one child. Garner lived in this section for many years and his death is mourned by many friends.
Two Jasper, Iowa families reel from tragedy as brother Joe McQuillin dies after surgery in Bronx City while Chester Corder, son of Mrs Preston, perishes in a Great Northern Railway motor car wreck near Rock Hill, Montana. Surviving kin include Mrs Norval Gray of Webb City and Minnie Corder, with Arthur in Tulsa. Funeral services held for both at the M I Church with large attendance.
Miss Mayme Bell of Golden City married Mr. Kistill H. Swearinger of Chicago at the bride’s uncle C. F. Miller’s home in Ft Scott on the afternoon of October 4. The bride, daughter of Mrs. I. M. Conrad, once lived in Jasper where friends wish her happiness.
Miss Carrie Storebeck daughter of Herman Storebeck and Ar thur Strecker son of W A Strecker, prominent locals seven miles east of Jasper, wed last Thursday in Carthage and headed to Miami where Strecker is employed. The couple are well known and esteemed by the community.
Wed in Carthage Miss Marie Johnson daughter of G H Johnson married Thos J Miller of Peoria Il The ceremony was at the prison near Virkt M B Church with Dr W B Clinton officiating The bride wore blue silk georgette crepe with shadow lace and chiffon, accompanied by her sister Mrs Josie Welsh The groom is a Warrensburg native and a young farmer They will spend winter in Illinois and move to a home in Warrensburg after March 1
Cletis Roberts aged 12 and Hallie Pinnell aged 14 were rabbit hunting on the Moulton place near Posgtuim Creek when a rifle ball struck Cletis in the right knee. Hallie held the rifle at the moment, neither boy sure how the accidental shot occurred. Cletis is expected to recover in a few days and gain a future lesson from the incident.
A Republican meeting will be held at Bloomingdale schoolhouse Friday evening at 7. W N Andrews candidate for the state senate and Paul Ewart a prominent man of Joplin will address the voters on political issues. The public is invited. Ladies are especially invited to be present.
Carr and Horton dealers in poultry eggs flour and feed have dissolved partnership with Mr Horton leaving and Mr Carr continuing the business at the old stand. All indebted to the firm are asked to call and settle accounts.
The measure calls for a November 1916 election vote to approve a constitutional amendment prohibiting manufacture, introduction, sale, exchange, or disposition of intoxicating liquors in Missouri except wine for ceremonial purposes. It sets penalties from fines of 300 to 1000 dollars and six to twelve months in jail, and repeals conflicting state and municipal laws.
Mrs Myrtle Hartley of Barton County near Jasper died Friday in St Joseph Missouri after a long illness believed heart trouble. Funeral held at Jasper Baptist Church with Rev J W Keltner. burial Waters Cemetery. Survived by husband John S Thirtley and three daughters.
