Mrs. V. A. Cavenee Dies After Operation
Mrs. Maggie Teeter Cavenee, wife of Virgil A. Cavenee, died Monday evening at Carthage Hospital after an operation for bowel obstruction. Nearly 90, she was born in Indiana, lived in Jasper, and was a longtime Baptist Church member. She leaves her husband, one sister, two half brothers, and a large circle of friends.

Jasper's fair began Tuesday amid threatening rain and a late wheat-planting season reflected in few exhibits yet praised for quality. Farmers benefit from last week's rain as ground dries. An aerial company offers rides, and the local team plays daily with Lamar, winning Tuesday to 0. A Lamar band performs, Crawford's tent show and a merry go round entertain visitors from nearby towns.

Rainstorm Damages Homes During Roof Work
Dr. Houser had his roof reshingled last week and a heavy rain followed as carpenters removed shingles. Tarpaulins were spread but wind blew part of them away, flooding Dock's house and forcing new wallpaper and plaster. George Sewall of the Carthage Press took notes at the fair.

Fraser boy injured in hay mow fall
Roy Jacobs, 13, son of George Jacobs and wife, living five miles southwest of Jasper, is recovering from a fracture of the left arm suffered in a fall from a hay mow.
