Plans are shaping for a large Jasper City Fair next week as stockmen and farmers prepare to travel from county areas. Carthage merchants predict strong attendance, citing favorable weather and ongoing farming activity that could allow a longer fair turnout.
Sunday School at M J includes morning service by Women’s Home Missionary Society and evening sermon by pastor J Martin. Revival services start October 2 at Christian Church Le, with Rev J N chuicher of Kansas City and subtopics on God’s gifts and sin. Lunch served by Baptist Ladies Aid Society.
Jasper County pioneer CLS Bishop long time resident of the county died Monday afternoon in Carthage after years on a farm southeast of Jasper. His son Harry Bishop once ran a local business. He had poor health for months and suffered two paralytic strokes. The body was found in a barn with indications of suicide by carbolic acid.
Mr and Mrs Herring returned last Friday from Necatur County Indiana where they joined the annual Herring family reunion, this year gathering 100 members. Mr Herring also took part in the Sixty Eighth Indiana Volunteers reunion, reconnecting with old comrades after nearly fifty years. The couple enjoyed a delightful trip.
A I Armstrong of Jasper area brings home prize winning Galloway cattle from the Kansas City Royal Stock Show. He buys a yearling bull and two yearling heifers, with two animals from Swigert & Son Salisbury Missouri and Crofter Built City Kansas. The herd will be shown at the Jasper City Fair next week.
On October 6 1915 the embroidery club was entertained at Mrs C L Hayziett home with Mescimes A Lear J A Cozatt and I J Crawford assisting The house was decorated with old fashioned flowers progressions and a two course luncheon was served The guests included Mesdames Joe Mack Clyde Raines Chorge Jackson W M Hicks and Miss Nellie Thompson.
Dr J J Martin arrives as pastor of the M J Church after serving Rich Hill where he and his family became fixtures. His long experience and scholarship are praised as he brings uplift to Jasper and supports community betterment beyond church work.
Mrs J E Carr dies suddenly this morning around 5 o clock after bronchial illness signs. She was a highly estimable resident with many Jasper friends who mourn her loss. Her husband and two sons receive community sympathy. Funeral services will be at M E Church this evening at 4 o clock conducted by Rev W S Chatten of Samar. Interment will follow at the Decatur LL family home.
J L Thomson mother J L Thomson sold his property in Maiden Lane Jasper to Mrs C L Goddard who recently sold her farm southeast of Jasper and will move to town around November 1. The Thomson property is occupied by LL T McCune and family.
Henry Graham of Lebanon neighborhood nears recovery from injuries after falling from a hay wagon onto pitchfork prongs that pierced his chest and lungs. The item also mentions a weekend camping party at Possum Mouth hosted by Misses Vern Weston, Mula Weston, Mae Wine, Margaret Beam and Messrs Julian Miller, Sam Tullman, Chirence Conroy, Lester Goddard with Mr and Mrs Cyrus Peppers as chaperones.
An all day Sunday School convention of Sheridan Township is set for Sunday in Zion Church. Every body is invited to attend and bring their dinner. Tom Brock, Township President.
Probate court appoints John Marsh of Farmers and Merchants Bank as executor of the estate of the late W. M. Deurdorff.
The pastor and family express thanks for a donation brought by friends to the parsonage after Sunday service. Jeneneee C. A. Lewis and family are noted in appreciation for the gesture and support.
Poultry Raisers urged to donate pens of birds for a display at the Jasper City Mall. Supervisors request best quality birds from readers with at least a pen per contributor, fitting coop presentation with fresh muslin.
