Chicken thieves shot at near Jeper farm
Mrs Valley Blauth and Mrs Vernon Matthews fired on suspected chicken thieves after six loud clatters woke them at night. One man was seen and four shots were fired toward him, but no one was injured. The incident occurred near the Blauth home on the baselines mile from Jeper.

Enthusiastic Republican Meeting At Opera House
A crowded Saturday night meeting at the opera house featured Republican speakers welcomed by Township Chairman Bert Webb. Present were state senator W. N. Andrews, representative Walter Bailey, prosecutor John Flanigan, county judge H. O. Earl, sheriff Henry Tanner, treasurer George Maxwell, coroner Dr. B. E. McCoy, and others. The negro male quartet provided entertainment amid audience laughter.

Dr Martin leaves for Mount Washington church post
Dr J J Martin left last Saturday for his new pastorate at Mount Washington M E Church between Kansas City and Independence Missouri. Mrs Martin followed Saturday evening staying with her daughter in Rich Hill. Misses Jessie Cora and Bessie departed Saturday night. Jasper laments their departure. The marshal warned riders off sidewalks stating arrest if seen riding wheels on walks.

Boston Lecturer to Speak on European War and Christ's Kingdom
Pastor W. J. Thorn of Boston will deliver a lecture at the opera house next Saturday night titled The European War inite Relation to the Overthrow of Satan's Empire and the Establishment of Christ's Kingdom. Hughes to Speak in Joplin on Hughes Day
October 15 declared Hughes Day in Joplin as thousands from Jasper and nearby areas plan to hear the Republican candidate for President. A tent 120 by 170 feet will seat 6 100 at Fourth and Grays Avenue near the Conner Hotel, with an 7 50 start and a special Missouri Pacific train expected to run to Nevada after the speech. About 100 attendees are anticipated to travel by train or auto from the county, as a reception committee led by Howard Gray and others coordinates Hughes’s visit.

Death of Baby Daughter of A W Radford and Wife
The six month old daughter of A W Radford and his wife died suddenly last Saturday. The infant was healthy prior to the event and succumbed after being found in a faint following a lay on a pillow. A doctor cited possible strangulation or heart failure. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with Rev. Wm K Chatten of Lamar preaching at the Brethren Cemetery. Hendricke Suffered Stroke and Wedding Ceremonies Held
Mrs V H Hendricke suffered a Sunday stroke leaving her right side paralyzed and unable to speak. The report notes her weak heart and seriousness of her condition.
