The Jasper Rebekahs held a special meeting last Thursday night in the visit of Emma Calder Cameron state vice president of the Sebekah Assembly. Noble Grand G W Harvey presided with Lamar members Harry Collins and wife and Mrs Branch in attendance. The gathering also served as a farewell for Rev. Mr. Lewis and wife, St EK Cearnal and wife, and G M Hutsell and wife.

Good Roads Days Postponed in Jasper
The observance of good roads days by Jasper residents and the community is postponed from this week to a later date due to farmers delaying wheat sowing. Rain shortage has slowed work by two weeks to a month, with some road work planned at several points once farming improves. Enthusiasm remains high and much will be accomplished before winter.

Suspected fraud over car sale ends with vanished buyer
A 24 year old calling himself Babe Violette and accomplice Mr Maxwell came to town seeking to buy an Overland from Vir Lilly. After repeated attempts to obtain payment via a bank check and promises to return the car, Lilly, emphasizing caution, drove them to the Stark place and later found the buyer had left town with no funds. The Next day the suspect friend secured oil money by cashing a $7 check at a local store, explaining the vanished balance. Bank later reported the buyer had no funds, leaving Lilly unable to locate Babe Violette.

Hughes Coming October 13 To Joplin Speech Planned
Republican presidential nominee Charles E. Hughes will speak in Joplin on Friday evening October 1 as part of a national tour. He is due in St. Louis October 18 at 6 30 am, in Springfield by noon, then in Joplin at 5 pm before departing for Nebraska. Officials in Jasper county coordinate plans for the event anticipating a large crowd.

Two Auctions Set Near Jasper This Week

Narrow Eye Injury After Wind Storm at School
