Patriotic Meeting at M. E. Church Friday Night

A lively patriotic meeting will be held at the Jasper Red Cross Branch venue on Friday night October 4 starting at 7 o'clock under Red Cross auspices. Members are asked to wear aprons and head dress. Rev H Swift of Carthage will give the address followed by annual Jasper branch officer elections.

Fourth Liberty Loan sermon at M E Church South

The M. E. Church South schedules Sunday services with Sunday School at 10 a.m. preaching at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The morning service supports the Fourth Liberty Loan. Keys is the pastor.

Baptist Church Notes at Blue School House Meeting

The Blue School house meeting closed Sunday night with eight professions of religion. The next gathering starts Sunday October 13 at Lyneland Schoolhouse. Zion services are scheduled October 6 with further evenings through Wednesday, focusing on temperance led by Rev. J W Moore of Jasper. Everett Looney is the pastor. The appeal notes brave volunteer raiders facing danger under fire, with families at home backing them and pledges to supply comfort and funds. Citizens are urged to see their banker and participate in this bond drive.

Eastern Star Visit to Jasper Highlights Visitor Work

Jasper Chapter held a special meeting with about 20 Carthage chapter visitors. Visiting officers conducted the degree work in a capable pleasing manner before a social hour and refreshments.

New Pastor Arrives at M E Church South

Rev. G. Keys and his wife arrived last week and moved into the parsonage. They are settled and ready to receive friends. Keys is viewed as an able presenter and the Jasper Church approves the assignment.

Harris couple leave Jasper for new stock farm near Ava

J H Harris and wife shipped household goods and livestock to a new home five miles from Ava in Douglas County about 25 miles southwest of Mountain Grove. He traded for a farm suited to stock raising and will focus on it. The couple, active in M E Church and Sunita School, will be missed by many friends.

Clothing for Belgians Sent From Med Crouse Branch

The Med Crouse branch sent 565 pounds of clothing to the Carthag Chapter for Belgian refugees. Items included trousers and garments for various figures and waist measures, donated by Americans including Ollie Roberts and Nathan Patterson. Women’s donations were mentioned but not seen. The pieces aim to bring comfort and safe passage for the refugees.

Jasper County Defense Council Bans New Building Work

The Jasper County council of defense orders all construction on new structures to cease immediately unless a written permit is shown. Exceptions cover mining related to economy or ore, farm buildings up to 100 dollars, and repairs or extensions under 250 dollars. A countywide enforcement committee will oversee violations, with district representation. The eastern district legislative committee members are H. W. Putnam, Warthage. W. H. Waters Jr, Jasper. Rev J W Moore Returns To M I Church

Rev J W Moore, pastor of the M I Church for two years, was returned to the church by the conference at Monett last week. The news brought pleasure to his many friends and family. Other appointments include Rev W G Clinton to Carthage and Rev W K Jones in Kansas City with Nev J J Martin Rich Hill and Rev J C Kirke Mount Vernon.

Red Cross Knitting at Carthage Chapter

Mrs. O Thompson, superintendent of the knitting department, delivered 120 pairs of sox and 16 swesters to the Carthage Chapter this week. Mrs. Jennie Bayne personally made 12 pairs of the sox.

Waters plans trip as brother begins aero service prep

W H Waters Jr left Monday evening for Fort Sill Oklahoma to visit his brother who is taking final instructions in Uncle Sam's air service preparatory to being sent abroad for active service. J F Gulick and wife went to Kansas City Monday night for a short stay.
