Fred Powers and Claude and Arthur Wabler fished at Northfork when Arthur Tabler was stung on the lower eyelid by an unidentified insect. Arthur was rushed to Dr Knote’s office unconscious, treated with an antidote, and is reported nearly ready to fight again.
The Taka Club met with Ms A. Cozatt last Wednesday afternoon with fourteen members present. Officers for the year were elected: Mrs. T. Hardaway president, Mrs. John Marsh vice president, Mrs. W. C. Thomas secretary and treasurer, Mrs. A. Hamberg admitted as a member. The next meeting will be with Mrs F. M Conrad.
Dr Knott reports the birth of a boy to Tom C Smith and wife one mile southeast of Jasper on Saturday September 27. The event highlights local family growth in the county.
The News prints sale notices for C L Purcell at Tom Wardlow place three miles west and two north of Jasper for Tuesday October 7 featuring six horses two cows two hogs and farm implements. Mrs Julia Maier eight miles west of Jasper plans a sale Monday October 13 with nine head of live stock farm machinery wagons feed harness lumber and household goods.
A 16 acre farm west of Boston known as the McMichael place owned by Jake McLaughlin was sold in a week to Henry Kaderly of Kansas City. Possession is expected around January 1. Wm Kaderly engineered the deal.
Rev W J Cox becomes new pastor at the M E Church South and will lead both morning and evening services this Sunday marking his first appointment here.
Well known young people Alberta L Melton and Ernest L Crawford wed at the M E parsonage with Rev W C Thompson presiding. The couple, longtime Jasper residents, are praised for character and community ties. They will live on Maiden Lane in Mrs Dunnell s cottage. Another wedding followed at the Methodist parsonage as Nellie M La Rue of Nashville married John W Kirby of Baltimore. Kirby, son of J B Kirby, is a sales manager for a Baltimore publishing house and the couple will reside in Baltimore.
J R Wheat announces purchase of the Model Bakery and installs a first class baker in charge. The shop has been renovated and is prepared to furnish high quality baking to the public.
An aged vendor offers large Dundie items at five cents each from a small office display. The brief reads as a quaint sale notice with limited details and no dates or organizations.
The Jasper County Sunday school convention met at the Christian Church in Carthage for a two day session. Attendees included delegates and families from M E Church South Rev J A Reid and clan, Presbyterian Rev W W Reynolds and Miss Leighty Fritz Hager, Christian Church Mesdames Hammond Block Henderson Coop and spouse, Baptist Mrs R E Hurt, Miss Minnie Busby, Clarence Brown, ME Church Ree W C Thompson J H Harris Zebence Patterson, Ion Church H O Earl Edna Ballard Lillian Mayers Ora Foster, Salem Church O Matthews and spouse.
Neighbors and friends gathered at Wm. Selsor’s home on September 29 to honor Grandma Selsor’s 76th birthday. Forty two attendees enjoyed a fine dinner prepared by the ladies, then quilt blocks were shared as a gift. Despite rheumatism she felt elated, noting this was her first surprise in 76 years.

The Five Hundred Club was entertained last Thursday night by Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Cozatt with Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hamberg as Questa of the club for the evening. Dainty refreshments served by the hostess added to the pleasure of the evening. Star brand shoes are better.

J B Brosius circulated among Jasper stock men Tuesday. Jake Metzger near Jasper attends the State Fair. Ward attends the State Fair in Sedalia. Thompson leaves for the Washington County Fair in Fayetteville Arkansas to judge the horse department. In Carthage under Ten Years Ago, D Thompson Mule buyer is noted for investing large sums in the local stock. Mr and Mrs W Patterson of Pleasant Hill visited Mrs F W Rumble.
