A party including Co. L. Hayzlett and family Miss Nellie Thomson L Crawford and family and Orman Schooler left Sunday morning for a 110 days camping trip on Sac River about 75 miles northeast of here.
Jasper Commercial Club held a regular session chaired by President Inyzlett. Committees report road fund subscriptions and vacancies on the city park board were filled by May or L. J. McCune J. W. Spaid Mrs. W. LU. Waters Jr. etc. Jay Good donated 12600 in city taxes to the park board. A special meeting on May 10 will plan a welcome for Highway Neighbors passing May 21 from Winnipeg to New Orleans. Jasper High School commencement May 17 at M I Church with diplomas and speeches under Rev L J Pinnell. Reserved seats 35c, general 25c, tickets at Nyal Pharmacy.
The 1917 baccalaureate exercises for Jasper High School are set for Sunday May 18 at 2 10 p m at the Methodist Episcopal Church. The service includes processional invocation music scripture a sermon and choir pieces with Rev L L Pinnell Rev J W Moore Mrs Allen Peterson and others among the speakers and participants.
Reverend Eli Looney will preach at the Jasper Baptist church Saturday afternoon and night May 12 and Sunday May 18 with services both morning and evening.
Harry Minor Davis son of S. C. Davis of Jasper marries Miss Lula Alice Fosdick of Alba at the home of Mr and Mrs Hart of Alba on Wednesday evening May 2. Grace Nosdick and Robert Pax served as bridesmaid and best man. Witnesses included Mr and Mrs Hart, Mrs Lizzie Rowland of Joplin, Mrs Alice Suizio and son Paul, Lela and Lola Yeague, Berthian and Beulah Melnturt, Minnie Shoemaker, Edith Wosdick, Grace Pesdick, and Robert Fox. The couple will reside in Jasper.
Clarence Donnell and Bernie Creasy visited Joplin for Army physicals. Donnell passed with high marks and plans to join the Coast Artillery. Creasy was rejected for being too tall for his weight. Both, plus others in Jasper, may succeed in service. Egner’s chickens advance progress with 16 live chicks from 17 eggs and 21 eggs laid in 7 days. The Carthage Roafs District sent a drag line to Jasper for road work improving three miles of highway, praised by the Jasper Commercial Club.
Jefferson Highway Commission workers marked the Jasper County route from the north line through Jasper Carthage and Joplin with blue white bands bearing J H on poles. Wheeler supervises from the Jasper county line to Lakeside park as volunteers aids. The Navy call inspires youth as Arthur Mendel Drake enlists as a musician and heads to St Louis for training after Baker University studies. Daniels' shipboard schools and sobriety stance provoke debate in Loveland Democrat coverage.
